Slow, but they got it fixed

About 6 months after purchase, our freeze dryer quit. We had a slow start with customer service. Since I work outside the home, it was one instruction per day. When they finally got us to a real technician, the dryer was fixed very quickly. We love our freeze dryer and I would buy one again!

I am very pleased with my purchase of a 4 tray Harvest-Right Freeze Dryer! I use it mostly with the harvest from my garden. It preserves the produce perfectly, and when I'm ready to make a meal I just pull out what I need.

When I have more time, I will cook a meal or two and freeze dry the leftovers. My favorite was a wonderful Chili which was so satisfying during a cold winter day. It was fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend this freeze dryer to anyone who wants to preserve food or wants to have quick meals that are tasty and healthy in a hurry. It also is great for preserving snacks, like banana chips, or other dried fruit. It beats canning everything. Although, I still do a little bit of canning. The fact that the freeze-dried food will last for 25 years is an amazing and wonderful comfort!

I have the large freeze dryer and absolutely love it. We did have an issue with the oil in the premier pump leaking from the glass window, but we purchased a new part and that resolved the issue.

While I have freeze dried meals for camping, with wonderful results, I usually use it to preserve fresh fruits and vegetables directly from the garden. Even though I still do a lot of canning, freeze drying is much quicker and easier.

One thing to keep in mind when ordering, is that the larger units required a dedicated 20 amp circuit to run. I knew this when I bought it, but it means that I need to run an extension cord from the kitchen to the garage to run it.

All in all, I am very happy with my purchase.... a great product with great results!

I had a small issue with my freeze dryer about 2 weeks in from purchasing. After a few attempts I wasn’t able to fix the problem so I reached out for customer support. It took a few days but once I was assigned a rep, everything went smoothly. My issue was my freeze dryer needed a software update. Gavin was nice to call and walk me through the steps in order to get my machine back up to running. He even called a few days later to make sure everything was working good again. I appreciate the customer service from Harvest Right! So far I LOVE my machine so much and it has been working great!

I love my Harvest Right. Although it took a few months to get it, the wait was definitely worth it. It is still a small business, so the customer service is still very personal and they still put effort into making a great product.

If you think about it, Harvest right is the only home freeze dryer company at the moment, so they really don't have to put much effort into updating their product to make a profit - but they still do by coming out with updates and listening to feedback that their customer have. If you are looking into home freeze dryers, you don't have much of a choice but to go with Harvest Right, but regardless, I would still recommend it to anyone.

Donna's Harvest Right Journey Begins

I am Donna Huggins. I am writing this review as I start my journey of homesteading. I have been caning and freezing food for many years. Now I am going to extend my education into freeze drying to aid many in our future life. I bought the Harvest Right Medium black Freeze Dryer and all the accessories. It was very heavy so I did have to have help lifting the machine. I read the instructions and set the whole thing up in 30 minutes. I even added the oil into the pump (slow as not to over fill) completely without help. I am now ready to build more to my pantry. The freeze dried strawberries, that I ate,were delicious. Great machine despite temporary software issues

I purchased an X-Large harvest right freeze dryer for my new healthy foods business in June and I like it very much in general. The main issue is that it stopped drying after my third or fourth batch. I contacted Harvest Right and they got right on it and determined that it needed a software update. This is normally a super easy fix but for my machine the software wouldn't download. After multiple failed attempts we finally figured out how I could use a different computer to download it (PC versus Mac) and that worked. It took me a month to get it resolved but now it's back up and running well! Harvest Right was responsive to my needs throughout but it was definitely a hardship I'm glad to be over. Other than that the machine runs great and can produce A LOT of very tasty foods! I'm very excited to have it to produce healthy fruit snacks that don't go bad for years :)

Pump failure

We currently have 5 machines. While only one machine has given us no problems, the pumps on three have failed shortly after warranty ends. Machine take a lot of repairs. We keep logs of oil changes, repairs, etc. each machine has its own log book and USB. The help we have received in keeping machines running is good but takes a long time.

We were hesitant at first to pull the trigger on a freeze dryer but it helps that our grandkids work for Harvest Right.

They have helped us each step of the way. At this point, we've had the freeze dryer for over a year and we are really getting into freeze drying. Our peach trees put out more peaches than we can eat, so freeze dried peaches have become popular. The freeze dryer has never had problems. We are grateful for the security it provides. Oil changes are easier than we thought.

We purchased an XL freeze dryer directly from HarvestRight. It arrived quicker than originally promised. We were able to do a couple of batches and then we began having software issues. The second-tier help desk was great at helping us resolve the issues and get our machine back up and running. (Thank you Jake and Chase!) Since having the software issues fixed, we have had zero problems with our machine. We are enjoying trying new items and even our children are coming up with ideas of foods to freeze dry! We will definitely be purchasing another machine and look forward to many years of food preservation

I like this freeze dryer and it is a good product because it helps to preserve food longer and food still tastes great. However, the machine did have some issues upon arrival. I was able to fix them all with self knowledge and from researching with others who had the same problems. For example, the cord to heat up the trays was very short and it kept disconnecting, but I was able to affix it better for it to stay plugged in. Also, the vacuum is sometimes unable to maintain the pressure/seal sporadically, but I have not been able to figure out why. Now, it works pretty well and I am able to freeze dry a lot. Harvest Right customer service is very good. If you need to contact them, they will get in contact with you right away. Even with some of these issues, I am still happy that I purchased this freeze dryer from Harvest Right.

I've had my medium Harvest Right freeze dryer for 10 months and it's been going almost non-stop. The food comes out completely dry and ready for long term packaging. I've had two issues with the machine but Harvest Right fixed it quickly and the customer service was prompt and professional. Even with the issues, I would definitely buy it again.

Educate yourself on methods and variety of processing.

I purchased a medium HR freeze dryer and it arrived as scheduled. I thought it would help round our my desire to preserve food as I currently can, dehydrate, vacuum and freeze. There is a bit of a learning curve and maybe some specific suggested first items ideas could be helpful to do a few test runs but I managed to fumble my way through some things after reading the manual several times. The machine seems to run well. I am very happy I purchased it. I did have a problem with a part while doing my first oil change. After watching several videos on the oil change I tried to take apart my dimister as specified and found that the filter was screwed into the canister crookedly (from the factory) and so tight that it could not be removed. I called customer service (All whom have been very professional) and they said no problem, we will send a new one out, No charge! That was 5 days ago and I called customer service and it has not been sent out yet! A couple hiccups but it is a great product that I do recommend purchasing.

Spent over $4k buying on a new small freeze dryer with the upgraded oil-free pump. Received the machine no problem. Shipping and packaging were excellent. After running a few batches I was convinced the machine was not running properly. Contacted tech support, took 7 days to get a reply. Tech support told me to download a new update, installed new update and it fixed the problem. Seems to me when I'm spending that kind of money the programming would already be up to par. Cost me $200 in food I had to throw out because of their programming bug. Tech support was great. Fact that I had to use it within 2 weeks of owning the machine is B.S.

I received my medium freeze dryer under a year ago and it has worked amazing with no issues, until last week. I went onto the harvest right website, logged a ticket. I had a phone call back 2 days later. The technician walked me though steps and emailed all instructions. It was so straight forward and after a simple reset the machine is up and running again. Great customer service! The freeze dryer works wonders. It’s So nice to have another option to store food long and short term.

I like the product. I like that the people are friendly and helpful. But the communication is not the best. I didn't sign in with my account for my order, so I can't track it. I was not told my item was back ordered until 3 weeks after the order.

You know I've seen a lot of negative comments on harvest right, and I have to say I have never had any customer service rep. Be ignorant or mean to me. Maybe it's the way you talk to them. I just had a issue and Lizbeth was great to work with and help solve my problem. So I stand behind them, even a new car has problems we all need to be a little nicer.
