Toasty Heater is the latest branded version of a common low-cost generic space heater.

These heaters are marketed directly to consumers via online ads as a cheap alternative to a traditional name-brand space heater.

Below, we explain why, after years of reviewing these devices, we do not recommend them.

Wholesale Heaters

Unlike manufacturers of popular name-brand heaters, sellers of these products typically obtain them through bulk orders from Chinese wholesalers.

When ordered in bulk, these units can be procured for as low as $6 each.

The sellers then create their logo and name, set up their website, and launch their online advertising campaigns.

Here is an example of one of these wholesale listings:

We’ve previously seen these heaters sold under the brands of: Alpha Heater, Top Heat, and Eco Heat.

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this business model, in this case, we have routinely received reports of several issues.

These range from poor product quality to a severe lack of customer service.

Heater Problems

The first issue with these heaters that users complain about, is their effectiveness.

Complaints mention:

  • Inability to properly heat an area
  • Severely underpowered
  • Don’t last long
  • Often arrive damaged or inoperable
  • Poorly designed - heaters may fall out of socket due to their weight

On the Toasty Heaters website they claim that this device operates at 650W (Low) - 1200W (High).

However, since the majority of these heaters we've reviewed are stated to be 500w, we remain skeptical of these claims.

Most modern space heaters that can heat a room use 750w on low and 1,500w on high.

Another area of concern when dealing with these space heater importers is the lack of adequate customer support they provide.

Their primary goal is to move as much inventory as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Unlike major brands, where customer service has long-term implications for their business, these resellers typically do not remain in the market for long.

Consequently, they have little incentive to provide quality customer service or post-sale product support.

They lack brick-and-mortar locations and do not focus on building long-term product brands.

Often, they promote a variety of low-cost imported products and simply rebrand once enough negative reviews accumulate.

Finally, many customers report billing and refund issues.

The Toasty Heaters website is designed to maximize your order price through a variety of sales tricks.

For instance, during checkout, the multi-unit order option is preselected for you, and an additional charge is applied for the remote option.

When customers accidentally over-order, these companies often claim it’s too late to make any changes, saying that orders have already been shipped, even if contacted immediately after the mistake.

This tactic is likely employed in the hopes that the cost of return shipping and the additional inconveniences imposed will deter customers from seeking a refund.

Toasty Heater Customer Reviews

At this time, there isn't much actual user feedback available, as this campaign has only recently launched.

Complicating the search for real reviews, search engines are inundated with sponsored posts promoting the product.

Companies often employ these tactics to obscure any negative feedback.

Toasty Heater does have a listing on the BBB website.  They are not accredited but do have 3 negative customer reviews posted there.

On that platform one user claimed that the heater produced a terrible smell and expressed difficulty reaching customer service to initiate a return.

In general, and as previously mentioned, these generic heaters tend to receive poor reviews.

Customer Service

If you have any issues with the Toasty Heater you can reach out to the company via email at [email protected] or by phone at 641-925-3165.

The only address provided is a PO box at:

Toasty Heaters
PO Box 19237
Akron, OH ,44319
United States

The company claims to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee 'if you are unsatisfied for any reason.'

However, their terms and conditions are misleading concerning the likelihood of them honoring this policy.

The terms stipulate that returns should arrive sealed, unopened, and in their original condition, leaving it unclear whether you can obtain a refund after trying the product and finding it unsatisfactory.

Popular Alternatives

Leading brands in ceramic heaters such as Lasko, Dreo, Honeywell, and Vornado offer more powerful and durable products compared to the Toasty Heater.

These heaters are also available from major retailers with proven customer satisfaction records.

Vornado Vortex

One great option is the Vornado AVH10 Vortex Heater.  It has the latest safety & comfort features and is reasonably priced as well.

This efficient but powerful heater is a New York Times 'Top Pick' and has good customer reviews on Amazon.

Dreo Solaris

The Dreo Solaris Slim H3 is an "Amazon’s Choice" selection and has an impressive 4.5 out of 5 rating from over 8,000 customer reviews.

It only costs a little bit more than the Alpha Heater, but is powerful enough to heat a 200 sq ft room.

It also has multiple safety features, heats up quickly, operates at 40DB for reduced noise, and has an oscillating fan that distributes heat across an entire room.

Final Thoughts

These cheap generic heaters may be useful to some people who are looking to heat a very small enclosed area, but overall there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to buy them.

These heaters are:

  • Poorly built
  • Priced at huge markup
  • Don’t last long
  • Sold by unknown companies
  • Come with little support

If you’re still intrigued by these devices, you can find the unbranded versions for sale on Amazon or eBay at half the cost of what Toasty Heater is priced at.

But overall we recommend sticking with a product from a trusted home appliance brand.  If you have any experience with Toasty Heater, please leave your reviews below.

POOR WORKMANSHIP AND COST TO SEND BACK
January 1, 2024
I would not recommend this product from this company Toasty Heaters. I ordered 3 of them, the first one heated up real hot and real quickly, but would not stay in the socket unless you held it in place. The other 2 did the same , but they barely heated up at all. When I tried the first one only a second time still holding it in place, it barely heated at all that time, and it was only used for a few seconds that i held it in place to see how it worked. I was disappointed in the product thinking it was great like they promised and would save a little on electric bills, HOWEVER I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I REALIZED THE COMPANY HAD CHARGED MY CARD TWICE FOR THE HEATERS ALSO, AND REFUSED TO SEND ME A POSTAGE PAID LABEL TO RETURN THEIR FAULTY HEATERS TO THEM. THEY ARE CLEARLY ONLY A WAY TO WASTE MONEY, GET DISAPPOINTED AND THEN HAVE TO PAY OUT MORE MONEY TO SHIP BACK BAD PRODUCTS.
