DoFasting Review: A Detailed Look

Reviewopedia staff  -  Updated:  November 1, 2023

DoFasting is a health & wellness company whose app and product line are intended to help users succeed with intermittent fasting.

DoFasting claims that through the use of their app and supplements they can get customers get going with an intermittent fasting regimen that will help improve their overall health.

Below we take a closer look at their program, the science behind their claims, and analyze customer experience.

How Does DoFasting Work?

Intermittent fasting is a diet involving restricting the periods in which you eat during the day in order to reduce the overall amount of calories you consume.

DoFasting claims to be unique in that it allows you to plug in your specific measurements, eating habits, and goals in to their app in order to receive a personally tailored fasting plan.

This plan takes into consideration the current way you are eating, so that you're required to change as little in your daily schedule as possible.

A sample plan may have you eating lunch and dinner, but foregoing breakfast.  Alternatively, you might fast for twelve hours a day, in which your body uses the window to turn fat stores into energy, which may encourage weight loss.

You could also choose one or two days of the week to fast for the entire day, or fast on alternate days.

There is a lot of flexibility in how you choose to structure your fasting plan, and DoFasting attempts to take the guesswork out of figuring out the right program for you.

Instead, the company comes up with personalized diets based on your personal activity level, daily schedule, eating preferences, weight, and desired weight loss.

While DoFasting does not guarantee weight loss, since this depends on the individual person as well as whether they choose to add exercise and healthy food, the science behind intermittent fasting is strong and seems to support success in many individuals.

Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting has been promoted by a wide variety of nutrition gurus, dietitians, and even some doctors.

For years it has been used as a tool to promote weight loss, wellbeing, and help combat certain diseases, the idea being to shorten your eating window and prolong periods of fasting in between meals.

This is intended to mirror they hypothetical eating style closer to that of our distant ancestors, who often faced food insecurity while living as hunters and gatherers.

Proponents of intermittent fasting (IF) argue that modern humans live a far more sedentary lifestyle than hunters and gatherers, and with exponentially more food sources available on demand.

We also tend to stay awake more hours during the day and sometimes fill that time with unnecessary eating.

Factors such as these have led to rising numbers of people having issues with obesity, poor cardiac health, diabetes, and other chronic health problems.

The proposed benefits of intermittent fasting include:

  • Weight Loss -  One analysis of the last twenty years of studies on IF concluded that “Intermittent fasting shows promise for the treatment of obesity.”  A caveat is that many of these were small studies of shorter duration, and that more research is needed.

  • Cardiovascular Health -  Another favorable analysis implies intermittent fasting can benefit cardiovascular health by reducing oxidative stress and optimization of circadian rhythms.

However, these results are not based on large randomized controlled studies focusing on the specific relationship of IF and cardiovascular outcomes.

  • Cellular Health -  One interesting effect of IF is that it can promote autophagy, a state in which starvation induces the body to break down old unhealthy cells and reuse the material to repair or create new cells.

Some nutritionists  believe that this can aid in removing toxic proteins connected to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Other studies suggest that autophagy can also help clear out potentially cancerous cells and even have anti-aging effects in humans.

Cons of Intermittent Fasting

Despite these and other promising studies regarding the benefits of intermittent fasting, there is a debate regarding whether IF is necessary and/or the best option if your goal is simply to lose weight.

Many experts believe that following a simple formula of consuming less calories than you are burning throughout the day is more important than the times when those calories are consumed.

Most recently this belief was backed up by a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine on April 21, 2022.

In it researchers tested the effects of a calorie restricted diet using an eating window of 8:00am to 4:00pm versus a calorie restricted diet with no time restricted eating.

After one year the study concluded that,

Among patients with obesity, a regimen of time-restricted eating was not more beneficial with regard to reduction in body weight, body fat, or metabolic risk factors than daily calorie restriction.

The journal  also noted that there was no difference in numbers of adverse events during that time period.

This does not discount any of the other benefits that IF may provide, but does point to the fact that if weight loss is your primary motivation for joining DoFasting, you should be able to achieve similar results with other methods.

DoFasting Products

Besides the app, Do Fasting offers additional supplements and products to help you succeed with their program.

  • Smart Scale - Designed to work with the app to help you track and monitor your weight.

  • Do Fasting Box - This appetite suppressant is meant to help you stave off any hunger pangs and allow you to comfortably stick to your eating window.

This essential fiber complex is made from Glucomannan and Cellulose.  Together these ingredients work to simulate the sensation of fullness without the intake of extra calories - thus maintaining your fast.

  • Glucomannan - This natural dietary fiber is derived from the root of the Konjac plant and has been used in traditional medicine to treat constipation, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

  • Cellulose - Another form of plant derived fiber.  Unlike Glucomannan, which absorbs water to form a gel like substance, cellulose is insoluble which means it moves through the digestive system unchanged.

It can also help prevent constipation as it moves waste through your digestive tract.

If you’re struggling with your fasting schedule this supplement may be worth a try, but be aware that adding high amounts of fiber to your diet can result in bloating, cramps, gas, or nausea.

  • Do Fasting Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies - This supplement packages all the benefits of Apple Cider vinegar into an easy to take chewable.  There are many benefits to ACV, but many people avoid taking it as a liquid due to its acerbic taste.

Acetic acid, the main active component of apple cider vinegar, has been shown to have many positive effects on blood sugar levels, insulin, and metabolism.  It can also act as an appetite suppressant.

Overall this supplement adds vitamins B1, B2, and B6, biotin, niacin, pantothenic acid, and vitamin C to your diet and may help with weight loss efforts.

Safety & Side Effects

Most people can safely incorporate any of DoFasting’s eating protocols in their lifestyle, but experts recommend that those who are pregnant or breastfeeding avoid fasting.

The Mayo Clinic warns that people with kidney stones, gastroesophageal reflux, diabetes or other medical issues should consult with a doctor before starting this type of diet.

Furthermore, intermittent fasting is not recommended for people who have a history of disordered eating.

Some common side effects of Intermittent Fasting include:

  • Hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Headaches

DoFasting Reviews & Complaints

When the app debuted it accumulated a lot of negative customer feedback.

There were many complaints about the functionality of the app and customers were also not fans of the recurring subscriptions that they were being billed for.

Further, the fact that the company is based overseas makes it difficult to return products or to pursue refund claims if there is a dispute.

On the Apple App Store DoFasting has a rating of 2.7/5 from over 3,000 customer reviews.

There are a lot of complaints stating that the app is glitchy and users have had a hard time keeping track of their fasting stats when they have to make unexpected changes.

Users have also complained that it's difficult to log foods into the app, and many users have had issues losing track of their stats at the end of the week.

In the Google App Store the DoFasting app has an even lower rating of 2.5/5 from over 5,000 customer reviews, with many of the same complaints being echoed by users.

Summary:  The consensus of online reviews seems to be that the app is just an expensive timer that doesn’t have the technical capabilities to be used for more complex tracking/logging/syncing tasks.

Customer Service

You can receive a partial refund of your fees by contacting customer support at [email protected], but you must provide information on how the diet plan did not meet the product description on the website.

Cost & Price Plans

Do Fasting offers several different payment plans for their app allowing you to save more on longer plans.

Currently they charge the following fees:

  • 1 month plan - $37 billed every month
  • 3 month plan - $48 ($16 a month) billed every 3 months
  • 6 month plan - $69 ($11.50 a month) billed every 6 months.

Do Fasting Supplements are also sold as monthly plans.  For example,

  • 5 month supply - $89.95 ($17.99 per bottle)

DoFasting Appetite Suppressant

Note:  All plans are set to automatically renew at the end of the billing cycle, so if you wish to stop the program you need to cancel ahead of time.

Competitors and Alternatives

While you can always try dieting on your own, it’s always nice to have a little extra support on your side.  There are dozens of other fasting apps and programs that may help you get started.

  • BodyFast is one of the most widely used programs that offers ten fasting plans along with a weight tracker and trophies for achieving certain goals.

For a premium rate you can get an individual plan created by a dedicated coach.

  • Fast Habit is another popular fasting tracker.  While it does not come up with an individualized custom diet plan, it does keep track of your progress and allows you to upload or manually add your fasting history.

  • Vora is a good option for people looking for more accountability.

This tracker includes extensive fasting statistics and analytics, as well as the possibility to manually add fasting history and social networking programs.

The Bottom Line

If you’ve researched intermittent fasting and feel like this is a health and weight loss strategy that you want to pursue then there are many resources available at your disposal.

There are other apps in addition to the ones listed above, such as Lifesum, Myfitnesspal, and Noom that all incorporate a variety of meal planning, workouts, and dieting strategies.

In addition there are many forums and blogs where you can find free information to get you started.

Do Fasting Supplements seem promising and may aid an IF regimen, but in general we’re not fans of companies that try to push customers into auto renewal payment plans.

At this time we do not feel that the Do Fasting app is your best option based on the many negative reviews, questionable app performance, and the availability of free info on fasting.

If you have any experience with the DoFasting or their products, please leave your reviews below.

Exorbitant price for basically just an app
March 20, 2024

Seemed like a good idea at the time - I have tried low calorie dieting and wanted to combine it with intermittent fasting and something that would be a reminder of times seemed like a good idea. However, the app is too easy to forget and, as others have said, glitchy.

Then there is the issue of exorbitant pricing. A small amount to hook you in for 7 days, ok, but to then charge USD$79 PER MONTH (equates to AUD$126 or thereabouts per month) is, to my thinking, incredibly expensive for what you get. No add-ons or supplements were purchased, this is the ongoing basic monthly subscription amount.

The only good thing was that is was easy to cancel the subscription via their website, you just need to remember what email address you put on the signup sheet and (hopefully) what password you used (although you could always use the forgot password option).

Is unconfirmed "Auto Renew" unscrupulous?
February 13, 2024

I tried DoFasting for three months. It never really worked for me, but it might for you.

My review is not about the program but the policies neatly placed in their ordering system. After three months, I just let the subscription lapse... 6 months later, I found that I was still being charged for a service that I had not accessed for more than 6 months. I immediately sent a message to their customer service and asked for a refund for the last three months. They have the ability to see if you are using the site, and clearly, I was and had not.

I just received an email telling me that I had signed an auto renew and that their policy did not permit a refund. They have now offered me one month refund for 6 months of unused subscription of which 2 and 1/2 months are in the future. This seems rather unscrupulous to me, so I urge you to be cautious in all sites. They are there for one reason, to take your money... Remember that.

Stupid company and a SCAM!
September 13, 2022

This company is a scam. all they want to do is sell you stupid stuff. It is something you can do by yourself. Cannot get anyone to answer me. They auto charged me for $66. Apparently, it is something that happened over a year ago. They charged PayPal. when I tried to log on they do not have an account for me...

Useless and bad company.
September 1, 2022

Intermittent fasting is awesome. Do Fasting is a horrible company. I had been successfully doing intermittent fasting for years and thought that an app would be fun and useful. The menus/recipes are not worth anything and they seem to use Do Fasting to push sales for Keto products. I have a plant based diet and it was basically useless.

The only full refund is if the app doesn't work within 14 days. They will only give you a 50% refund if you discover that it is useless.

What A Sorry Product And Money Grab Scam
August 27, 2022
I wish I would have seen these reviews before I even thought about trying. The product is not good and after a while you forget about the app. The developers want you to forget about it so your card will be charged until you discover the card is being charged. THIS APP IS NO GOOD and customer service is only worse. BUYER BEWARE! I took the monetary loss but at least I discovered before too many payments went unnoticed.

Do-fasting is much of Do-Nothing Special nutritional fitness app
July 28, 2022

Frustrating app, not easy to record full nutritional values on home cooking and recent 'update' has locked me out of my 4th week in fasting. Just when I was starting to lose the spirit, now I can't login and get things recorded. Cannot go back and edit in add mode to previous days meal (if you've moved onto next day's fast or eat). Troublesome if you forgot to add specific calories. APP needs a lot of work...

Does not work
November 11, 2021
Scam!!! Made me ill and customer service is horrible. I ask to return my product which they give you 14 days to do but state your return may take up to 30

You are not guaranteed to get a refund!
July 20, 2021
Before you buy this program, there is a difference when purchasing through the app or on the web. If you change your mind, you are not guaranteed to get a refund. Read everything and search it beyond the site.

Thank you, didn't even receive a reminder email!

This was really a very rudimentary and useless application. I deleted it pretty quickly. But unfortunately, purchasing the application also signed me up for an AUTOMATICALLY RECURRING subscription for some dubious products. app on my Android phone, eg: DoFasting. For me this is costing $66 every year.

To cancel, go here: https://dofasting.com/clients/manage

Also, try this:

On your computer, go to play.google.com/store/account

Click Order History

Find the order you want to return

Select Request a Refund or Report a Problem and choose the option that describes your situation

Complete the form and note that you would like a refund

Food logging not functional
December 20, 2020

I really wanted to fast and keep track of my calories etc. Optimistic I got my iPhone and started to sign on .. first it did not know how to read my email address. So I tried on my desktop to see more options etc. It worked. As soon as I put all my bank info it took a yearly subscription and then reams of pages of junk food before I could finally get to the end.

They have the worst pick for the food logging, it is not practical or functional. I thought what did I do, I had already spent my money, trying to get it back was going to be impossible. If you are reading this you did your research wish I had.

Very Similar to Bait and Switch
October 7, 2020

Here is the deal with DoFasting.com straight and to the point. Do fasting.com begins by pumping up the reader that they will lose weight, a lot of weight, by intermittent fasting and they have the plan for you! However, there are zero facts or studies, real facts or studies. Next, they imply you will get a magical, all-encompassing plan situated to your sex, age, weight, and how much you want to lose by simply entering some information.

However, once your “Plan” is finalized, it is THEN, they let you know that you must buy the app for $66.00/yr. and the first payment is due before you can view your plan. Do Fasting is the same kind of rip-off artists as the gym owning thieves that neglect to tell you that you signed up for a yearly contract when you gave them your banking info. For the unbelievably great deal they are giving you! Because you are special AND they are such GREAT people!

Once they have your checking account number or Debit Card they will ACH you till you have nothing left. Vultures, the lot of them. This is a definite STAY AWAY! Do a little ‘DuckDuckGo’ research yourself and you can find you own specialized plan. Simply search for Intermittent Fasting and plans.

Save your money

I couldn’t log in, because the app kept wanting me to pay again. Fortunately, I used PayPal, so I’m using their resolution center. I had emailed several times, and they responded with an answer that had nothing to do with what I was asking. I finally got a link, and again I ended up at the payment page. I’m frustrated to the degree that I just want a refund and then to be done with them.

Lovely App
May 15, 2020

I started intermittent fasting after my friend recommended it to me. She does it without an app, just sets the timer. I decided to get an app to do it the right way and I came across dofasting. It could been any other app I guess but I’m happy with my purchase. So anyway, what I want to share is that my progress is faster than my friends and I will tell you why. I know intermittent fasting is about when to eat not what to eat bla bla BUT it’s also important to get all the right nutrition because you only have 8 hours to collect all the needed macros. So I almost always followed the meal recommendations they gave me and I lost twice as much weight as my friend. It’s an unplanned experiment I guess. The point is that it’s really nice there are apps that guide you through the eating process.

Excellent App!!
May 14, 2020

I just want to talk about those who talk the app is not worth your money. I don’t know where you live but I come from LA and to get sports and meal program it costs like 60$ and you can’t change it ever. With dofasting you can, they give you new meals so it doesn’t get boring eating the same food (at least I didn’t get bored and it’s the end of the second month since I’m using the app). The sports program is also really nice and I love it that it’s filmed so I know how to do every exercise and I can do it anywhere, at home or in a park and I really feel my muscles burning.

Happy Customer!!
May 11, 2020
A happy customer over here! My friend recommended me the dofasting app now I’m hooked. At first the idea of not eating for 16 hours kinda shocked me, but it’s not as hard as it seems. Anyways, this idea seemed even more shocking to my sister so we went in to a bet. She said I won’t be able to do it even for one week. She owes me a delicious dinner and a bottle of wine now because I’m successfully in the middle of my second week and I can’t wait to see what changes IF brings to my life after a month or to. I can feel it’s going to be a success. I just feel much better when fasting. I don’t feel gassy anymore and also my cravings for junk food are surprisingly lower.

Highly Recommend
May 9, 2020

Oh, I wish I found out about intermittent fasting sooner. I randomly read about it on the internet and was pleasantly surprised about all the benefits it has. One particular benefit stood out to me. So I have this condition called GERD. This means I have to take medicine every day to prevent heartburn and acid reflux. It happened that during my fasting I was out of town for couple of days and I forgot my medicine at home. I thought I’m screwed. But interestingly, the symptoms (which usually occur at night) were much less prominent. I’m still continuing to take my medicine on most of the days, but generally, I feel much better. Btw, I’m using dofasting app to help me through my process. If you ask me, it’s fine, easy to use.

So anyway, I really recommend fasting to those with GERD problems.

Great experience and great app
May 4, 2020

I got my leg injured this summer and I couldn’t walk for months and I gained 15 lbs of weight. Of course, I want to lose it as quick as I can. Now I can walk but I can’t really do sports so gym is not an option. I’m not really familiar with diets and all that so I browsed the internet and came across intermittent fasting. I read about its benefits on this Dofasting blog and I was really excited to give it a try. So I got their app and my user experience is great so far. I lost 10 lbs and only 5 more to go! Let’s see, maybe I can lose even more.

I also really want to thank the customer team. Because of my leg, I couldn’t do some exercises they recommended me on the app so I contacted them and asked for substitute-workouts and they were so kind and helpful with that.

Helps me lot
February 24, 2020
I used to do intermittent fasting on and off and after getting this app I am finally able to stay determined. The timer really helps me to stay motivated not to end my fasts sooner. Such a simple gadget, but goes a long way. The push notifications also help a lot. It really feels like you have someone watching over you :)

I think it's a great app
February 22, 2020
I decided I will review it after I give it some time. I started with 14:10 and after a week jumped on 16:8. It worked great for me. In total one month of fasting I lost 11 lbs and I generally feel so much better and happier.

Feeling better
February 20, 2020
Bet intermittent fasting app ever. I love almost everything about it. The fact that you can choose any type of fasting, the fact that you can pause your fasting if you good for vacation or something, the fact that you get a meal plan… Only one thing I would add is maybe an in-app note section to track how you’re feeling and how you’re improving.
