ParaBroom Review: A Detailed Look

Reviewopedia staff  -  Updated:  September 7, 2023

ParaBroom is a natural parasite cleanse supplement that the seller claims can aid with a variety of gut health issues.

It is composed of ingredients that have been used in traditional medicines to stave off and treat parasitic infections.

Below we take a closer look at how these types of supplements work, analyze the ingredients in ParaBroom, and see what real customers have to say about the results.

ParaBroom Claims

ParaBroom is marketed by PureHealth Research and advertised via a lengthy video presentation by Dr. Holly Lucile, a member of the company's advisory board of experts.

In the video Lucile argues that a potential cause of many persistent gut issues could be parasitic infection.

Symptoms of a parasitic infection could include:

  • Leaky gut
  • Bloating
  • Bad gas
  • Foul smelling stools
  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain
  • Joint Pain
  • Memory problems

She goes on to say that even in developed countries parasites are a common and often overlooked issue because of a perceived sense of safety from them.

Despite government oversight and food/water regulations people can still get parasites from a variety of sources.

Sources of potential parasitic infection include:

  • Pets
  • Young children
  • Daycare centers
  • Nursing homes
  • Poorly prepared food
  • Drinking contaminated water
  • International travel

According to the USDA there are different types of parasites, either single-celled microscopic organisms known as protozoa or larger multicellular worms called helminths.

Common parasites include:

  • Giardia duodenalis
  • Cryptosporidium parvum
  • Cyclospora cayetanensis
  • Toxoplasma gondii
  • Trichinella spiralis
  • Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm)
  • Taenia solium (pork tapeworm)

Finally, the video reveals that, through her research, Dr. Lucile has identified ancient remedies that civilizations have been using for years to treat these issues.

Going on to state that “every ingredient in ParaBroom was chosen for its ability to kill parasites at every single stage of life.”

ParaBroom Ingredients

There are many holistic parasite treatments on the market and most share at least some of the ingredients found in ParaBroom, due to some form of preliminary research on their efficacy.

Black Walnut Hull Extract (375mg)

Black Walnut has been used in traditional medicine for a variety of purposes, such as treating fever, kidney problems, chronic constipation, gastrointestinal issues, and ulcers.

Eating black walnuts is linked to health-promoting effects due to its antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory properties.

Furthermore, the bioactive compound juglone, found in the husk, has also been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. [3]

There is some research supporting its use in traditional medicine as a treatment for parasite infection, with studies showing that juglone plays a role in the death of parasites like Acanthamoeba and Toxoplasma gondii. [4], [5]

Another study found that “the natural product juglone is a multi-targeted inhibitor against 3 key enzymes…from H pylori”, a bacteria that's a common cause of stomach ulcers. [6]

Sweet Wormwood Leaf (50mg)

Sweet Wormwood Leaf has been a mainstay of traditional medicine, in which it’s valued for its antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. [7]

It has been used to reduce pain and swelling, treat digestive issues, remove intestinal worms, and for skin infections.

For these reasons it is one of the key ingredients in most herbal parasite cleanses.

One lab and animal study found that wormwood had similar reduction effects on the dwarf tapeworm as common antiparasitic medication.

However, the researchers concluded that, while promising, further research is necessary.

Papain from Papaya (25mg)

Papaya has many health benefits and there are studies to support its use as a parasite fighter.

According to a publication from Mount Sinai Medical School, “Papain is an enzyme from the papaya plant that may help kill worms when taken 30 minutes before or after meals."

In one often cited study, school children in Kenya were given a porridge with ground papaya seeds.

Researchers then tested the seed group against a placebo group and one given standard antiparasitic medication.

They found that the papaya group had 63.9% fewer roundworm eggs vs the group that ate medicated porridge, which had 78.8% fewer eggs.

Other active ingredients in ParaBroom include:

  • Olive Leaf Extract (20% oleuropein) - 200mg
  • Garlic bulb extract - 150mg
  • Onion bulb extract - 100mg
  • Turmeric root extract - 38mg
  • Black pepper( BioPerine) - 5mg

These are also commonly found in various parasite cleanse supplements, and have been historically used in herbal remedies for digestive issues.

Do Parasite Cleansing Supplements Work?

Before spending money on one of these natural parasite treatments it’s important to get a proper diagnosis.

If you are experiencing symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal pain, rashes, and bloating after travel, or have been ingesting questionable food/water, it may be prudent to have a proper parasite test performed.

While many of these symptoms could be caused by E. Coli, there is a chance that you've been infected with another parasite.  A proper diagnosis would help identify the correct medication.

Even though there’s some clinical support and a historical tradition of using some of the ingredients in ParaBroom against parasites, most doctors do not recommend herbal cleanses as an effective treatment for parasite infection.

Adult parasites must be killed along with their larvae and this may be a prolonged process if only relying on herbs.

If you do choose an alternative treatment approach, it is still advised to do so under the supervision of a doctor, as they’ll be able to prescribe personalized doses and prevent any potential negative interactions with medications.

A change in diet is also recommended if trying to naturally kill off parasites.  It is suggested to eat more:

  • Fiber
  • Raw garlic
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Papaya seeds
  • Pomegranates
  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces boulardii, bifidobacteria)
  • Digestive enzymes
  • Vitamin C
  • Zinc

It's also important to avoid refined sugars and processed foods.

Bottom Line

It can be argued that the advertising for ParaBroom employs scare tactics to exaggerate the risk of parasitic infection.

If your pets are regularly treated for worms, and you have not traveled to a country with poor sanitation, then parasitic infection should not generally be of a high concern.

If you're experiencing symptoms associated with parasites then it's important to see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis first.
