About Washio

Washio, found online at GetWashio.com, is a new company that says they offer better, faster, cleaner premium dry cleaning and laundry services to their members in a wide variety of metropolitan areas.

How Does It Work?

To become a Washio member you simply sign up for an account on their website or through their mobile application using your Facebook account or an active email address. During your account set up, you’ll be asked for your address, your credit card information, and whether or not you have any special instructions for your laundry.

When you are ready to have your laundry picked up, you simply choose a 30 minute window when you would like the Washio “ninja” to come get your clothes. They also offer members Washio Now for people who would like their laundry picked up within the next 30 minutes, and they allow members to set up recurring orders, where their laundry is picked up at the same day and time every week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or 4 weeks.

Clothing must be separated into different groups for dry cleaning, laundered, and Wash and Fold items, which you will want to further separate into lights and darks. When your ninja arrives, they will provide you with special bags for each group. When your laundry is returned, you will keep these bags for future service.

Your laundry will be either washed or dry cleaned using green cleaning methods and detergents, and will be returned to you just 24 hours later, unless you request your laundry to be picked up on a weekend, when their service has reduced hours of operation.

Mobile Options

At this time, Washio provides downloadable mobile applications for iOS and Android devices.

Cost/Price Plans

The Washio website does provide customers with an online calculator where they can estimate how much they will be charged for the specific laundry they are having picked up.

As a general guideline, however, the website says all their wash and fold items are priced at $1.39 per pound, and items which are individually priced will range between $1.99 per item and $11.99.

There is a $20 minimum on all orders, as well as a 15 pound weight minimum for Wash and Fold orders. Any order that is under $35 will be charged a $3.99 delivery fee, while all orders over $35 will receive free delivery.

Refund Policy

The website provides no information on refunds at this time. If a customer is concerned about what options if they have if an item of clothing is damaged or missing when their laundry is returned, they should contact Customer Service in advance and get an explanation of any applicable policies.

Customer Service Contact Info

Customers who would like to contact their Customer Service team with questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by phone at 866-281-5686 or by email at [email protected]

While there are many positive reviews of this service at this time, there are many negative reviews as well, and when you read enough of their reviews it is very easy to spot a trend.

First, there are customers who have complained of having a shirt damaged or not properly cleaned without any notice – when they were unpacking the laundry it was their responsibility to call management and complain, then wait for someone to come back and pick the item up for the issue to be addressed.

Other complaints generally had to do specifically with their pricing policies. While some people just mentioned how much more expensive it was than to do basic wash and fold laundry yourself, there are many, many vocal customers who are upset about Washio’s “gender discriminatory” pricing.

This is because Washio considers any women’s shirt to be a “blouse.” Even if it is the same basic button up material and construction as a man’s button up dress shirt, it is considered a blouse and is charged as such. The problem is that the price to launder a man’s dress shirt is $1.99 per shirt, while a woman’s blouse is priced at $4.99 per shirt – more than double. Clearly this is an issue that their customers want to be addressed.

Competitors and Alternatives?

Home pick up laundry and dry cleaning service isn’t new – many neighborhood businesses in metropolitan areas have been providing these services to their customers for years. This however is one of the first companies to try to bring together a nationwide chain of providers who will do it through a mobile application.
