UserMuse, found online at UserMuse.com, is a market research service designed for enterprise tech companies who seek the input and insight of specific and important customers.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, many different tech companies are often busy with the goal of designing software and tech solutions for very specific markets and can sometimes have difficulty accessing the market research they need to successfully design their product, because their niche is so specific.
When traditional market research companies and consultants seem to fall short of what these companies need, UserMuse steps in with the goal of “introducing” them to the very industry experts and professionals who are most valuable to them.
These professionals are already registered and vetted and waiting on their website to be recruited to help assist on ongoing projects. Customers can target the appropriate experts by filtering through the UserMuse community by role, industry, and software expertise.
UserMuse will provide you with a full list of their community experts who fill your personal criteria, and then you will be able to choose which experts you would like to be introduced to.
This company’s pricing structure is actually very simple and straight forward. If you are hoping for an introduction to an expert who charges less than $250 per hour, you will be charged $40 per introduction. If you are looking for an introduction to an expert who charges more than $250 per hour or who is a current C-Level executive, you will pay $65 per introduction.
UserMuse is a simple, pay-as-you-go service and does not require contracts or subscriptions, and it will never take a percentage of the experts’ advisory fees. Once you have been introduced to your expert, all payments will be negotiated and managed directly between the two parties, without the interference or management of UserMuse.
Their website says that their introduction fee is non-refundable at any time, but if you find that your experience with a particular expert or with a particular client is unsatisfactory, they do ask that you contact their Customer Service team by email with the subject line “Payment Issue” so that they can receive an explanation of the problem and follow up with the other party if necessary.
Their website says that if they determine that an expert has misrepresented themselves or otherwise fallen short of their community guidelines, they will do their best to match you with another expert and will waive the UserMuse fee. The expert will face suspension or will be permanently banned from their site. Likewise if a client is not making good faith efforts to pay or otherwise falls short of community guidelines, they will also face a temporary or permanent ban from the site.

Unfortunately this website does not appear to have many customer or client reviews at this point in time. Most of the reviews which are available appear to be written by people who are excited for the existence of this type of service and the community of experts they claim to have access to, but they themselves have not paid to access an expert and receive their advice.
Competitors and Alternatives?
As mentioned above, there are many other market research companies and many other professional consultation companies available to help with product and market research, but this company provides an interesting combination between the two which many businesses may find more useful than the alternatives.
