UberEats, found online at UberEats.com, is a new incarnation of the popular ride sharing service Uber, which promises to deliver people their favorite meals from their favorite local restaurants.
How Does It Work?
The goal of UberEats is to provide people with access to the food they want, from the local restaurants they love, “delivered at Uber speed” with their two different food delivery program: regular UberEats and Instant Delivery.
The regular UberEats delivery program is similar to most other food delivery services, in that you can order from the full menu of any local restaurant they are partnered with, make any substitutions or special requests the way you normally would, and order it delivered directly to your door or office.
The Instant Delivery program is a little different. This service is available Monday through Friday, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and is designed to be an “instant” option, as their partner restaurants will provide pre-cooked meals to Uber drivers which can be quickly and easily chosen from a limited menu and then delivered to you much quicker than a traditional order could be.
While their regular delivery service takes an average of 35 minutes from the time of order to the time of delivery, the website says that Instant Delivery can be delivered in just ten minutes on average. And, as with all Uber services, your driver can be reviewed and rated on their mobile application.
The UberEats mobile application is available for those who use an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet, and users interested in downloading this application can submit their phone number directly to the website and a link to download this app will be texted to your phone.
Downloading the mobile application is free of charge, and UberEats offers meals of varying prices depending on which restaurant and meal you choose and any customization options you choose. UberEats Instant Delivery meals will range between $7 and $12, normally.
The delivery fee for UberEats is $4.99 and the fee for Instant Delivery is $2.99. There are no other hidden service fees or costs, and the website says that – as with any other Uber service – no tip is ever required.
The UberEats Refund Policy is very much the same as all other Uber based Refund Policies, which is to say that their website is very clear that they do not issue refunds. The website also goes on to say that you can contact their Customer Service team if you believe you have encountered circumstances that justify a refund, and Uber will review your case, but no refunds will ever be issued until Uber has reviewed and approved your case.

UberEats seems to have a few mixed reviews at this time, likely because they are a fairly new service and also because there are some policies they have in place that they haven’t exactly made clear through their website.
First, this service is always a curbside service – drivers will not leave their cars to deliver food. You must meet the driver at the street to pick up your order. In addition, the Instant Delivery service has a finite number of meals they deliver, so as it gets closer to 2:00, customer options will obviously become fewer, and if a driver cannot successfully get to your location before 2:00, they will have to cancel their delivery due to health code rules.
None of these policies are inherently problematic, but it certainly would influence some people who were ordering if they knew about these policies in advance.
Competitors and Alternatives?
Certainly most people are familiar with some of the other variations of Uber, including UberCommute, as well as many of the other nationally available food delivery services, including GrubHub, Eat24, Seamless, and many others.

8:56am - Place Uber Eats Order, charged $80.98.
8:58am - Receive notification of cancelled order due to restaurant closed and I will receive a refund for the $80.98 in 3-5 business days.
9:00am - Place a new Uber Eats order, charged $79.47 with ETA no later than 10:20am.
10:10am - Check my phone to see status of order and it shows delivered at 9:55am. I check my front porch and there is nothing there.
10:20am - I contact an Uber rep via the help chat to see where my order is. After another 10 minutes of waiting I am advised that they could not get in touch with the driver to find out what happened but they will issue a refund for the $79.47 to be received in 3-5 days.
I now have $160.45 in charges that I am waiting for refunds on and running low on spending funds until payday tomorrow. I ask the rep if he can not issue the $79.47 refund and instead just get my food re-ordered and delivered. He advises me he cannot and if I want my food, I have to place and pay for yet another order and wait at least another hour. I explain that I do not have the funds in my account since I am waiting for $160.45 in refunds but he advises he cannot do anything and abruptly ends the chat at 10:43am.
10:45am - My husband begins to contact some neighbors who were doing some gardening outside to see if they may have seen any Uber deliveries or other activity to help us solve this issue. After a few discussions with other neighbors, it is discovered that a neighbor three doors down received our order. That neighbor contacted Uber to find out about the mysterious order and why they got it and they asked if it might belong to another neighbor. The Uber contact they spoke to said that it was an error and that they could have it if they wanted it or just throw it away. They said if anyone in the neighborhood reports a missing order, they would just replace and re-deliver it. So our neighbors proceeded to eat the order.
10:56am - I attempt to contact Uber help again to give them this newly discovered feedback and I receive an auto response that since I have already been issued a refund for my order, that I can no longer contact them regarding this order issue.
Now 2 hours later, I have no order, no refund for 3-5 days, no re-order from Uber as they advised my neighbor, and no ability to re-order myself since I do not have enough spending funds in my account as I wait for $160.45 to be refunded.
And to top things off, I have no way to contact Uber to give them this disappointing feedback as they are not taking support calls at this time and they refer you only to their Help section of the app where they proceed to tell you they can’t help you since you’ve already received a refund...FRUSTRATING!!!!!!
Uber eat is garbage the food is never deliver on time. People when they do not find the house make up lies and do not call to try to find the house or apartment. The customer service is in another country and they do not care. When ask to speak to supervisor they say that the supervisor will say the same thing. This company should not exist if they treat the customer so poorly. Never us uber eats dash is better. Now at 8:52pm I call the restaurant and was told the driver never return the food so the driver stole the food and had a nice meal.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, I've never experienced such imcompetent people in my life. I hate uber eats they charged me three times and refused to refund even when I showed my statement. RUDE unprofessional customer service reps that made me cry! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
I've used Postmates 2 to 3 times per week for months. I also use DoorDash and Caviar from time to time. I've only had, let's say 2 out of 40 deliveries go wrong. This delivery was an absolute mess. I use Uber 2 to 3 times every other week and have never had bad issues over the last 2 years. I love Uber so much I have never ugh about using Lyft instead!!! When my UberEATS driver arrived tonight he opened the window and kept yelling at me from the car. I blinked the lights to let him know where I was. He backed up closer to my home and kept saying from his open car window, 'DO YOU WANT TO EAT'. I kept yelling back YES!!! We in LA just had 2 days of torrential rains. I was in socks, so I could not go to his car. I really did not understand his actions. With Postmates, DoorDash and Caviar, they come to your door, yet I usually walk out and meet them halfway so they can see where I live. I was in socks and the sidewalks were drenched in rain so I thought I could just flick the lights this time!!!! So, the driver finally gets out of his car and is obviously upset. He tells me as he walks up to my door in a rude voice that he is not suppose to get out of his car!!! I said I did not understand and handed him a tip. He calmed down and said again that he is not suppose to get out of his car. I told him Postmates, DoorDash, Caviar, Chinese and pizza delivery do, and that this was the first time I've ever used UberEATS and at no time during the ordering and delivery process did UberEATS inform me of this rule. I apologized no he was very cordial. Okay, weird....food courier that does not deliver food to your door and company that does not let you know this when you order. If they had let me know, I would have had shoes on and walked out to the car!!!! Courier leaves. So then, I open my food from Greenblatt's and UberEATS did not get my order correct. I order from Greenblatt's weekly through Postmates or DoorDash and my order is always correct. UberEATS did not read my special notes on the order.....I got hot Dijon Mustard on my sandwich and a tomato. I ABSOLUTELY HATE ANY MUSTARD ON MY SANDWICHES AND DO NOT LIKE TOMATO!!! Enough said....I WILL NEVER USE UBEREATS AGAIN. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE....SO UNLIKE REGULAR UBER.
