Some of the most misleading information is travel reviews because it is often sponsored.
Having subscribed to the major travel magazines of the US, UK,Brazil, and France I do not recall a negative review of anything.
What saved Tripadvisor is the massive customer base and they were slow to monetize the site.
It is hard for a hotel to manipulate ratings if there are 1000 genuine reviews.
If for the first many years you are not selling any product it is hard for you to be biased.
The only slight bone I have to pick is their local experts.
The interests of a first time visitor on a short vacation can be different from a local.
Does a first time visitor have the time to search out that little trending restaurant if it is 2 hours from the hotel in some out of the way area?
Extremely good on Europe.
It's my go-to before booking any vacation and I like that they've added the feature of booking hotels and activities right from within the app.
The site itself feels very cluttered and slow compared to modern web experiences, which bumps this down from 5 to just 4 stars. Still my favorite travel reviews and info site.
I started to use it many years ago and I have to admit that it's still working good.
The main problem is that the reviews can be fake as tripadvisor doesn't check if you have really been in that place.
Anyway I think that if you only consider the reviews of people with more than 30-40 reviews, you can still get good advices!
