About TitleMax Loans
TitleMax Loans, found online at TitleMax.com, describes itself as one of the nation’s largest and most reputable title lending companies with more than 1,350 locations in 16 different states.
How Does It Work?
TitleMax Loans specializes in car title loans, a specific type of short term loan where borrowers offer the title of their car or motorcycle as collateral for the money they are borrowing.
A car title loan is intended to be a useful alternative for people who are unable to qualify for a traditional loan for various reasons, or people who find themselves in circumstances where it is important to find money quickly, meaning that people are unable to wait weeks for a traditional loan to go through.
The TitleMax website states that their company offers rates that are “much lower than the industry standard,” while offering more cash with loans up to $10,000 in certain locations. In addition, like most other short term loan providers, there is no credit check required, and some borrowers will be able to get their cash the same day they apply.
However, it is important to note that the requirements for borrowers hoping to secure a loan and the parameters for the loans themselves will be different depending on your state of residence and the loan you are trying to secure, though the website does publish the specifics that are relevant for borrowers in each state in which they are licensed to operate.
Unfortunately without knowing how much money you are hoping to borrow, the length of time you are given to pay it back, or the specific type of loan you are securing, there is no real way to nail down the type of fees and interest rates you are likely to be given.
However, as most informational websites will tell you, car loans are intended to be paid back quickly – often in 30 days – and carry fairly significant fees and interest rates, which is very common in the short term loan industry.
As a financial company, TitleMax Loans does not offer a Refund Policy. They may potentially offer a Cancellation Policy, for borrowers who have begun the process of borrowing but then determine they no longer need the money and would like to pay back the principal quickly and without financial penalty, but borrowers would have to discuss that with the lending center in their that they are dealing with.

Like most other short term lenders, lenders that specialize in car title loans are extremely controversial, with many outside sources like CNN or Bankrate.com speaking out against them, and with government agencies like Consumer.gov and the FTC providing information to consumers about the danger of these types of loans and the alternatives that may be available to them.
The big issue is, of course, predatory lending practices and the fact that these companies do provide money quickly and without a lot of the requirements of traditional banks means that in order to absorb the risk they are taking, they must charge expensive fees and high interest rates.
TitleMax Loans doesn’t appear to have negative reviews outside of these same complaints regarding the interest rates, so as with any short term borrowing situation, people will really have to assess their personal circumstances, make sure they closely read the terms of the loan, and only go through with borrowing when they know they will be able to successfully repay the loan in the time frame provided.
The added danger of a title loan of any kind is that if you find yourself unable to pay your loan back according to the terms of the loan, your car can be claimed as the property of the lender, which is simply too big a risk to take for most people.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many, many different websites and companies out there that specialize in short term loans, including United Cash Loans, Valley Trust, Installment Loan Experts, ChecknGo.com, Rapid Loans Direct, and more.
