TireRack.com is the online home of a company which promises to provide their customers with everything they need to find the tires and wheels they want for their car or truck at the best prices.

How Does TireRack Work?

TireRack was originally established in 1979 in the state of Indiana, but evolved into a nationwide company in 1982, and into an international company in 1996, always with a single mission of offering their customers “quality performance products, expert advice, fast shipping and exceptional pricing.”

The most important aspect of this company is their team of Performance Tire and Wheel Specialists, all of whom spend roughly 80 hours each year in the classroom of behind the wheel of test vehicles in “real world” driving sessions. This gives their team the ability to knowledgably choose the correct products your vehicle, depending on your driving style and conditions.

If you don’t want to speak to a representative directly, their website offers many different tools which will provide with a range of advice, information, and guidance you can use to choose your own product. These tools include their Tire Decision Guide, Test Results, See the Wheels on Vehicle, Tire Survey Results, Tire Reviews, and more.

They also promise that their store only carries quality products from reputable manufacturers, and that you’ll never be limited to only certain brands or the few options that are “in stock.”

Finally, once you choose your tire and/or wheel options, you can then go to their list of Recommended Installers in your area and find someone you can install your purchases according to TireRack.com’s guidelines.

Cost/Price Plans

Since this website offers such a wide variety of products, there really isn’t any way to quote a set price range for the items you will find, as tire brand, size, special features, delivery fees, and more will ultimately determine your final cost.

Refund Policy

The website does say that they will accept returns made within 30 days of product delivery, however refunds will depend on the product you order. A general guideline is that returned wheels and returned tires will be offered a full refund of the purchase price, as long as they are unused, never installed, and never driven on when they are returned.

If you purchased a package which included both wheels and tires, you can still receive a refund of your purchase price, but it will be less a $60 service fee. All returns will be less any Shipping and Handling costs, and specially ordered items are non-returnable.

If you need further assistance in order to determine whether or not your purchase is eligible for refund, you should contact Customer Service as soon as possible.

Customer Service Contact Info

Customers who would like to contact Customer Service with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by phone at 888-541-1777, or by submitting them directly to the website through their Contact Us link.

TireRack Reputation

This company has many, many mixed reviews. A lot of TireRack.com customers report positive experiences with high quality products, but a few of their customers have had bad experiences, and these experiences point out some consistent issues that customers may want to consider.

On the chance that you receive a product that isn’t great quality, or is defective, or has some other issue, but you have had the product installed before realized the problem, the unfortunate reality is that you can appeal to TireRack.com for a refund, but you’ll out be out all your costs for initial and return Shipping and Handling, as well as installation.

This is incredibly frustrating for customers who find themselves in this position, and as such, results in many customer reviews detailing their disappointment with their Customer Service team, as they received no help or additional consideration when these customers appealed to them for help regarding their unique circumstances.

So it seems that if you receive a perfect product, then you’ll be very happy with your experience and your ability to get a high quality product at a low price. But if you receive a problematic product, then you are likely to have an unpleasant situation which results in you spending more money than you would have if you would have gone to a local tire shop.

Competitors and Alternatives?

There are many other online retailers which promise their customers the ability to find any car parts they need, including PartsGeek.com, TheAutoPartsShop.com, and many others, though when it comes to something like tires a local tire shop should be considered as well, since installation will often be offered free of charge if you purchase directly from them.

They don’t honor their tire road hazard protection
July 21, 2021

Stay clear from TireRack. They are dishonest and don't honor their guarantees. You know, when you're looking for tires, and you're thinking, hey, you know what that "two-year road hazard included" sounds good.

Guess what. TireRack doesn't honor it. Here's my story.

Short story: DO NOT buy from TireRack. Stay away at all costs.

Longer story: I bought 4 tires in 2019 for $1,069.88 from TireRack, the another 4 245/45R18 Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Run Flat MO Run Flats in 2021 for $1,125.18. All the time, I thought, "you know what? It's comforting to know that in case something happens to these tires, they're covered." Well, after running TireRack tires for 3-years, something did happen. One of the tires blew out while on the highway. Yes, I was safe. Yes, it wasn't cool.

About the time I was thinking bummer, I need to get new tires now, I thought, "Hey, wait, I had the "two-year road hazard included." So, awesome, I'll give TireRack a quick call and have a credit to buy new tires. Well, not so fast.

I called TireRack. Apparently, they don't handle those claims. They contracted this out to nationalsafedrivers.com. Okay, no problem, find their website and submit the claim. I follow up. Nothing. I follow up again, nothing. Four months later, I get a cryptic reply that I need the TireRack receipt for the tires and the install receipt for the tires. I emailed ASAP Tire, who emailed me the invoice within minutes, which I forward to nationalsafedrivers.com to complete my claim.

Now they say they don't have enough paperwork. Hey, there is no more paperwork. First, 100% of this transaction was done through TireRack; second, I forward the paperwork 3x over 4 months.

Bottom line TireRack, hiding behind nationalsafedrivers.com doesn't honor their "two-year road hazard included."

If you care about your car and are familiar with running on tires you feel are protected, you won't find them at TireRack.

Don't waste your time as I did, preserve your time and family's safety, and go with a company that cares about their customers and the safety of their customers—and that my friend isn't TireRack.
