StudySoup is a website that aims to help college students have a reliable place where they can find the high quality study materials they need to be successful.
How Does StudySoup Work?
According to their website, the StudySoup.com peer-to-peer learning marketplace was launched in 2014 with the goal of helping students be successful in their studies with the help of other students in their same classes.
The creators of StudySoup said that they learned in college that there wasn’t always a single, clear-cut way to be successful in every class. Professors had different teaching styles, different approaches to homework and projects, and used a wide variety of textbooks and materials. By the time of midterms, most students were overwhelmed and didn’t know what they should be studying.
But the truth is that there are always a handful of students who know exactly what they are doing and manage to successfully prepare for the test every time. StudySoup.com wanted to give these successful students a way to help out their classmates, simply by sharing their own personal class notes.
Elite Notetakers (successful students) are able to upload their class notes and be paid for sharing them with their classmates. Other students are able to sign up for this service and get access to all class notes which may help them with their own personal studying.
Currently this company offers three different subscription plans for their customers. The first is their month-to-month subscription which is $32.81 every 30 days and which they describe as being the best plan for customers who are new to their service.
Their Platinum Subscription is intended to last a full school semester and is priced at $133.87, while their third plan is the Presidential Subscription that is also priced at $133.87 and provides members with six months' free.
Elite Notetakers are told that they can earn hundreds of dollars for providing their notes to their classmates, but it is important to note that they are only paid a small amount for actually uploading their notes – the more Notetakers share their notes with their classmates and the more their notes are actually downloaded by members, the more they are actually paid.
StudySoup.com says that because all their subscriptions are paid in full at the time of enrollment, customers are welcome to cancel their subscription at any time but they will not be eligible for a refund. Instead, their subscription will stay active until the end of the subscription period, at which time it will end and customers will not be automatically re-enrolled.
Their website does say that they offer a Satisfaction Guarantee which says that if you are not satisfied with your subscription within the first three business days of your enrollment, you can contact them for a refund and their website says that your request “will be reviewed.”
They also say that customers who are experiencing “special circumstances” are welcome to email their Customer Service team to make their case for a refund request, but they do say that refunds will never be provided more than 30 days after the initial purchase date, regardless of the activity or inactivity on the site.

Oddly enough, the most reviews to be found for StudySoup.com is actually for their Elite Notetaker earning opportunity – there are quite a few websites promoting this opportunity as a great way for college students to make extra money, especially if they are so hard at work and dedicated to their studies that it might be difficult for them to take a more traditional job.
That being said, it does appear that StudySoup has positive reviews for being both a money earning opportunity and a study tool for college students. It is important to know that this is not a service where other people will complete your course work for you, which is obviously an unethical practice for which students can be expelled from their university. It's simply a website where students will be able to get notes from classmates.
