Roost.com is a website and company who says that people should not let their free space go to waste, instead using it as a way to make passive income and build up their community relationships by renting it to their neighbors.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, many people have extra space around their home that isn’t being utilized at all, while many others may have serious difficulty figuring out the storage they need in their own living space. Roost.com figured out that these people could easily help each other.
If you have extra space, including the space in your garage, closets, cabinets, backyard, attic, basement, spare room, or anything else you can think of, Roost.com lets you list your space on their website in order to be rented. They ask that rental space providers give a detailed description of their usable space, so that prospective renters can decide whether or not the space is really appropriate for their needs.
In turn, renters are asked to provide a detailed profile of themselves and the items they are looking to store, so that rental space providers can have an easier time determine which renters they would like to work with.
When renters have found a space they believe will work for them, they will contact the space provider by email. Renters and providers will then have 48 hours to hash out all the details of the rental, including the date and time of drop off, the prospective beginning and end dates for the rental period, the type of articles being stored, and when and how the renter will be able to get access to their belongings if they need to.
The space provider is completely responsible for determining the price they want to charge for their space. Roost.com will then add a 15% service fee to the price determined by the space provider which will be paid the renter, as their fee for all necessary administration costs.
Because Roost.com only acts as a connector and facilitator between renters and space providers, they don’t really provide a Refund Policy. The 15% Service Fee they charge to renters is considered non-refundable, unless the arrangements made between the renter and space provider are cancelled before the start date of the rental period. As for any other refund considerations, renters should discuss this with their space providers directly.
