About Pocket Points
PocketPoints.com is the online home of Pocket Points, a company and mobile application that wanted to provide students with access to rewards as an incentive to not use their phone in class.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, the creators of Pocket Points looked around one day and realized that a large number of students in large lecture halls were actually on their phones and not paying attention to the professor. They wanted to find a way to change that.
They came up with a very simple, straight forward plan. They decided to partner with a large group of campus businesses who were willing to reward students for keeping their phones locked during class. Pocket Points then designed a mobile application to keep track of students’ phone use.
The way the app works is simple. Once you get onto campus you simply open the app, turn it on, and then lock your phone. The entire time your phone stays locked while staying on campus, you will accumulate points.
Once you’ve accumulated a certain number of points, you will be able to redeem those points for rewards from retailers including Smoothie King, Pita Pit, Insomnia Cookies, Wendy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Pizza Hut, Jamba Juice, and many others.
This website says that they do offer a mobile application for both iOS and Android devices so their app can hopefully be used by the largest number of students.
This mobile application is complete free to download and free to use, and it seems that the rewards they currently offer will simply be provided to the students who earn them in a very straight forward way – it does not appear that their rewards will be contingent on their making additional purchases at the partner retailers.
Because this is app is free to download and free to use, they don’t offer their members any kind of applicable Refund Policy at this time.

From the reviews which are currently available for Pocket Points, it seems as though this company is true to their word in providing their members with rewards for different local businesses if they keep their phone locked while in class. Not surprisingly, this translates to a well-liked mobile app.
There does seem to be a problem with some students’ phones not recognizing that they are on campus when they are – the app does provide a “Help, I’m in Class!” button for these moments which should make sure that your phone registers that location as class in the future.
In addition, students who are using the newest version of the iPhone appear to be having significant trouble with the newest version of this app – while older versions appear to have really great reviews, it seems that the bugs of the newer version are causing users a lot of problems, but hopefully this will be solved soon.
Competitors and Alternatives?
Pocket Points appears to be somewhat unique in that it specifically pays students to stay off of their phones while they are in class. There are other mobile applications that help to reward students for studying or helping other students study, but that isn’t quite the same as what this company is promising their members.
