About Mederma

Mederma is a healthcare product which claims to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and says they are the number one doctor and pharmacist recommended brand for scars in the United States.

If you have any scars resulting from surgery, injuries, burns, and acne, you can use Mederma products to them softer, smoother, and less noticeable, as long as you use the products as directed.

The Mederma line includes two different types of Mederma gel for adults – Advanced Daily and with SPF – as well as a scar gel for children, and finally Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy. Each product has its own set of directions that you should follow specifically in order to see improvement.

Mederma products have an active ingredient called Cepalin, which they describe as “a proprietary botanical extract, and is a greaseless, pleasant-smelling therapy” which has been shown in clinical studies to improve scars.

According to their website, subjects in a clinical study saw a 42% improvement over untreated scars when using Mederma advanced for as little as 4 weeks, and in the clinical study for Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy, after 12 weeks 80% of subjects noticed visible improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks.

People who may have trouble remembering to apply their Mederma daily can download the Mederma Progress Tracker Application for the iPhone and receive reminders when you need to apply. This app can also make a time lapse movie of your scar’s progress so you can see how your own scar has personally improved.

This product can be bought at a wide variety of national retailers, including Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Duane Reade, and many more. Since this product does not require a prescription, anyone who needs it can purchase it over the counter.
