MakeSpace.com is the online home of MakeSpace, a new storage company that promises people an easy, convenient way of storing your items which will include pick up and drop off.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, the goal of MakeSpace.com is to make putting things into and taking them out of storage as convenient for their customers as possible, especially for those that live in busy and crowded cities.
To do this, MakeSpace provides their customers with special boxes delivered to their homes which they can pack with as much stuff as they need. Items that they wish to put into storage which will not fit into the boxes can be transferred to storage as well, as long as they can be carried by a MakeSpace employee, though it will be considered a “large item” and subject to different pricing.
Whatever items you decide to put into storage must be able to stay in storage for at least three months in order to use this service, though you may take certain items out of storage or add others to storage during this time period if you need to.
This service is available in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens in New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago. Customers who live outside of these areas but still within the continental United States can take advantage of MakeSpace Air if you choose, though this service does operate differently from their traditional service. Customers considering this service should contact their Customer Service team for more information.
Currently MakeSpace.com does provide their customers with a mobile application for iOS devices. This app will allow you to book appointments, add photos, and get your storage items back with just “a few taps.”
The bins that you will be given to store your items are priced at $6.25 per month, per bin, and have been designed to hold up to forty pounds worth of items or materials. For each large item that you choose to store with them you will be charged $12.50 per month.
The cost of picking up your storage materials and transferring them to the storage center is always free, but having your chosen items picked up from storage and returned to you will cost $19.99, though they do say they will “deliver anywhere.”
For MakeSpace Air customers, boxes will be delivered to your home for free. Customers who fail to return any boxes they have ordered within 30 days of being delivered will be will be charged $10.00 per box, and if no boxes are returned, you will be charged $10.00 per box plus $20.00 for the original delivery.
The website is very clear that there will be no refunds whatsoever of the minimum three months’ storage fees that are required when you use this service to successfully store your items. That being said, it does appear that they will consider refunds for other charges or later storage fees, depending on individual circumstances, and as such, each case will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Customer Service Contact Info
Customers who would like to speak to their Customer Service team about their questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by phone at 800-920-9440, by email at [email protected], or through their website’s Live Chat feature when available.
Though there are not many reviews available for this company from their customers at this time, there are reviews from third party blogs and publications, all of which are very enthusiastic and positive about their service, their business model, and what they are promising customers.
Of the few customer reviews that are available, they are almost all positive, but they are region specific and may not necessarily be applicable to your experience in your own city.
Competitors and Alternatives?
Actually, MakeSpace.com is not the only company that offers this kind of convenient storage solution, including Spaceways and the popular Pods storage company.

1 ‘MakeSpace.com’ Review
I'll admit, I didn't use their service, so my review is based solely on my website experience.
The website has no information and you are almost forced to talk to a rep unless you want to go into this blind. Once you call, even if it is for a simple question, they get your number off the caller ID and call you back non-stop.
They offer a great rate on storage and then say the pick-up is free and offer you "free" totes, but the website says nothing about the monthly charge for each tote or large item. This is tantamount to "bait and switch"; the promise of free, when it really isn't.
Consider this hypothetical situation: they say you can rent a space for $59, you get 10 "free" bins and you have 2 large items. With the additional fees, this actually costs you $146.50 a month. They don't tell you any of these fees on the website and you are giving them your credit card number before you even know any of this information.
Think twice about storing with them. This might be great for places like NYC or San Fran, but in normal, urban areas, it is easier to just get a regular storage space.
