Lockitron, found online at Lockitron.com, is a new home automation device that wants to give people the ability to manage their home door locks with their cell phones and without the use of traditional keys.
How Does It Work?
Lockitron is a new home automation device that allows people to unlock the doors of their home using technology they call "Sense," which works the same way smart keys work with enabled vehicles. Bluetooth Technology in the Lockitron will sense your enabled smart phone and unlock the door for you.
This device will also send you notifications when your children unlock the doors of your home, as well as give you the ability to send you family and friends permission to unlock the door when you choose.
The website says that Lockitron will fit over your current door lock in just seconds. It uses regular batteries, and will send your phone a notification when the batteries are running low and need to be replaced.
The website states very clearly that because they offer a mobile website rather than specific applications, their device works with all cell phones. They can even work with older model cell phones that aren't smart phones through a series of text commands.
Currently this product can be pre-ordered for $179, and all payment information will be processed through Amazon.com.
The website says that all devices are eligible for refund within the first 30 days of purchase, for a full refund of the purchase price minus the cost of Shipping and Handling.

1 ‘Lockitron’ Review
I preordered this as a gift for my son for Christmas in Nov 2012. It is now August 2015. After waiting 1 1/2 years for the product to be delivered, the order was cancelled by me and a refund expected. After much correspondence with Cameron Robertson and promises of a refund, I am still waiting for my money.
