About Knife Aid

Cooking with a dull knife isn’t just annoying - it’s dangerous. When you repeatedly cut into food with a knife that has not been sharpened in a while, you run the risk of cutting yourself because you are pressing more aggressively down with the knife.

Why bother cooking with a knife that isn’t razor-sharp? While we understand that sharpening your own knives can be a daunting task, Knife Aid is here to make your life a little easier - and safer, too.

What is Knife Aid?

When was the last time your knives were sharpened? Last year? A few years ago? Never?

On average, a kitchen knife being used on a regular basis needs to be sharpened at least once - but ideally twice - a year. You will know that your knife needs professional sharpening if it only has a limited effect when sharpened with your honing steel at home. When you cook, you should be able to easily slice through a tomato without compressing or shredding it.

Knife Aid is a professional knife sharpening company that can tackle every kind of knife, including bread knives, meat cleavers, paring knives, chef knives, and more. They can sharpen steel and ceramic knives, working with all major store brands. They can even sharpen outdoor knives like folding knives and hunting and fishing knives.

The company recognizes that no two knives are identical, and that’s why they don't use a standard knife sharpening process for each and every knife. Instead, a knife smith will evaluate your type of knife to determine the angle at which it should be sharpened. This can range from anywhere between 10 and 30 degrees. The type of metal will also determine the process used.

Knife Aid can handle everything, from knives with asymmetrical edges to those that need a good final stropping or polishing. Unfortunately, they don’t do any cosmetic work, like repairing or replacing handles. They can, however, fix bent or broken knife tips and blades.

To sharpen with Knife Aid, you will need to visit their website and place an order. Once you do, the company will send you a prepaid, customized, and registered knife envelope. This will include safety sleeves for all of your knives to protect them (and the postal workers!). All shipments are fully insured and trackable.

Cost and Price Plans

The overall cost of sharpening your knives with knife aid will depend on the number of knives you need sharpened. You must send a minimum of four knives, which will cost $49. Five knives costs $59, while fourteen knives costs $129. There are marginal savings to be added in as you increase the number of knives you need sharpened. There is, however, zero tax and free shipping included on all orders.

Competitors and Alternatives

Unless you are really skilled at sharpening your own knives, you will probably end a professional knife sharpening service at some point in your life. While you can sharpen your own knives at home using a stick sharpener or a steel, you likely won’t get as fine an edge as you would with a professional service.

You can look around your local community for local knife sharpening services. Keep in mind that these tend to be limited, particularly if you live in a rural area, and that they don’t always charge flat rates or have standard delivery times - it may be awhile until you get your knives back.

You can also check in with your knife manufacturer to see if they offer sharpening services. Remember that these services are often done with the help of a robot, so you might not get the fine edge you’re looking for.

There are a couple of other services that allow you to send your knives through the mail to have them sharpened, too. One popular option is Town Cutler. This company also offers professional sharpening, but the pricing at Town Cutler is a little less straightforward. Sharpening is done by the inch, with additional fees added for things like pocket knives and axes.

Online Customer Reviews/Complaints

Customers appreciate that Knife Aid will sharpen any kind of knives - even those that are inexpensive. In fact, the company recognizes that cheap knives are often made of high quality steel, but were originally sharpened by a robot. Therefore, having the work done by a professional knife smith will make sure the knives come back to you even better than they were before.

Another nice feature of Knife Aid is that, if you’re not happy with your final sharpening, the company will resharpen your knives for free. There's no risk at all in investing in this company’s services.

The only downside to working with Knife Aid is that they do not sharpened swords, daggers, blades for power tools like meat slicers, and micro serrated knives. If you are looking to have one of those tools sharpened, you will need to look elsewhere.

Customer Service

Need to get in touch with someone at Knife Aid about a current or upcoming order? If so, you have multiple methods of contacting the company. You can drop them a line at their mailing address in Agoura Hills, CA, or you can email at [email protected] Although the company does not have a phone number listed on the website, you can visit one of the many social media channels on Facebook, Pinterest, Vimeo, or Instagram to learn more about the company and its services.

Where to Buy?

You can only sign up to have your knives sharpened with Knife Aid by visiting the company’s website. They take multiple methods of payment, including Visa, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, MasterCard, PayPal, Venmo, and more. If you are interested, you can even purchase a gift package for a loved one - who wouldn’t love the gift of a set of nice, sharp kitchen knives?

Is Knife Aid Worth It?

When your knives are sharp, cooking will be more enjoyable. You can spend more time with your friends and family - and less time in the emergency room because you cut yourself by mistake. Make the switch to an easier style of cooking by having Knife Aid sharpen all of your culinary knives for you.

DO NOT USE KNIFE AID!!

DO NOT USE KNIFE AID!!
Stay away from shipping your knives to get sharpened by Knife Aid unless you are local and able to personally bring them in and pick them up. I feel they are getting a lot more knives and packages than they can handle in the time frame stated on their own site. Total FALSE ADVERTISING. They clearly state that they will turn around your knives within 24 hours of receiving them, but they don't. They have had my knives for over 7 days, and at this point they have no idea where my knives even are and won't respond to any emails. They went on Shark Tank without being prepared for the influx of business they would get, can't keep up with the orders they are getting and now they are a disaster. Again just find someone local to sharpen your knives. This isn't worth the time or effort it takes to deal with them as a company.

To top off everything, they have terrible customer service. No phone number, probably cause they get so many calls about their turn around time or sending people back the wrong knives, and only an email which takes them days to reply to if at all.

You are way better off finding someone locally that is able to sharpen your knives. At least this way you have a chance getting your knives back and if there is a problem having someone actually respond to you. They only want to collect your money and after that don't really care what happens.

Definitely a scam

KNIFE AID STEALS KNIVES. If you are a knife sharpening company and need to make money, how do you do it? You become crooks. You steal the knives that people send you and there is nothing the customer can do about it. That's what happened when I sent 7 knives (valued at several hundred dollars) to knife aid for sharpening and they returned only 2 of them. Yes, of course, the ones they kept were the most expensive. If you value your knives, DO NOT USE KNIFE AID. YOU WILL LIKELY NEVER SEE YOUR KNIVES AGAIN.
