HomeExchange.com is the online home of Home Exchange, a company that wants to help foster and support a community of people who are interested in traveling to new places by exchanging homes with other travelers.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, the idea behind HomeExchange.com is simple. People all over the country and all over the world love traveling, but one of the most prohibitive expenses of traveling is often staying in a hotel.
The solution to this, as proposed by Home Exchange, is to simply find another traveler in the country or in the world who is interested in visiting where you live, and the two of you simply switch homes at no cost. Their website says that their members report that exchanging homes saves them up to 58% on their standard traveling costs.
It is understandable that this might be an unnerving concept to some people, but that’s were HomeExchange.com comes in. They provide their customers with a place to safely list their home and find other like-minded travelers.
Their website provides more than 65,000 listed homes in more than 150 different countries around the world, along with guidelines for safely exchanging homes, the right information to discuss with your partner travelers, and 24/7 support whenever you need it, before, during, and after your trip.
In addition, in order to make sure their members feel as comfortable using their service as possible, they give members a place to leave reviews about other travelers they have worked with and the homes in which they have stayed, so you have a good idea in advance of what you are really getting into.
Currently their website says that their service is priced at $150 for one full year of service, and Home Exchange promises that their website never charges any hidden fees. Customers simply pay their one annual fee, and they are able to exchange homes throughout the year as many times as they choose.
This company doesn’t really have a Refund Policy, however, they do offer their members something they call the Home Exchange Guarantee. This Guarantee states that any members who are unable to successfully arrange a home exchange within their first year of membership will get their second year of membership absolutely free.
Customer Service Contact Info
Customers who would like to contact Customer Service with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by submitting them directly to their website through their Contact Us link or by using their website’s Live Chat feature whenever it is available.
This company appears to be a long-established favorite when it comes to the concept of arranging home exchange for travel. It has been recommended by many different travel blogs and websites, and it appears that they have many different satisfied customers.
Customers who are unsure if this service is right for them can go to their website and see what kinds of options they offer to their customers and see the resources and tools they provide to their members before you ever have to decide if you want to pay the membership fee.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many other companies that want to give travelers affordable, local alternatives to staying in large, expensive hotels, like AirBnB.com, Couchsurfing.com, HomeAway.com, and many others, so if you are uncomfortable with the idea of home exchange, you still have other choices.

1 ‘HomeExchange.com’ Review
We have been exchangers for over a decade, last month the host cancels the exchange after we made travel plans with tickets and itineraries, everything was confirmed despite homexchange.com admin had to confirm the guest points needed. We contact homexchange desperate about our holidays being ruined and they assure they will cover with the insurance an amount per night if they don't find any alternative: due to the lack of offer in the country they offer to host us over 3hours drive away from our original destination (where other friends had booked to be together) and they say they won't ask anymore the insurance to cover a refund per night as first agreed. I am italian and I guess for any tourist on holidays wanting to visit Venice it wouldn't be the same to be protected completely in another area for example in Bari... They stopped answering and abandoned us in our completely ruined holiday as bitter never got away and we spent the worst time ever.
