About HealthTap

HealthTap, found online at, describes themselves as the world’s first Global Health Practice that is providing 24/7 access to more than 107,000 doctors via video, text, or voice.

How Does It Work?

According to their website, the creators of HealthTap wanted to give people a personalized, engaging health experience for everyone at any stage of receiving care, “from query to cure.”

This website says that their mission is to help people live healthier, longer, and happier lives. There are people who are simply trying to improve their already good health, others who are managing a chronic condition, and others who may be living with a serious illness, and they all deserve to have access to the medical information they want and need to live their best lives on a regular basis.

To do this, they are providing people with a question-and-answer website, where customers can submit questions limited to 150 characters and they will be answered by a pool of 60,000 doctors from across the U.S. Their website says that they currently have more than 10 million active users, and their service is ad-free.

Mobile Options

This company says that their free downloadable mobile application will be available for both iOS and Android devices.

Cost/Price Plans

This company currently offers their customers three different options. The original HealthTap is a free service that allows people to ask free and anonymous health questions, explore a library of health information, find healthy living checklists, and find doctors who may be able to help you.

They also offer their HealthTap Prime subscription, which allows them to get all their free services along with access to US licensed and certified primary-care physicians who will provide you with virtual consultations on your mobile device or computer. This service includes the ability to get prescriptions, referrals, lab orders, and medically appropriate “tips.”

Finally, their HealthTap Concierge service allows people to get care from doctors with their virtual consultations, find primary care physicians and specialists, and receive prescriptions and further care depending on your needs.

Unfortunately this website does not publish their monthly pricing for their paid services until customers are ready to sign up for them. It does appear that they are generally priced around $99 per month, and $10 per month for each additional family member.

Refund Policy

This website says that they will handle all refund requests on a case by case basis, and all refund approvals will be given entirely at the discretion of HealthTap.

Customer Service Contact Info

Customers who would like to contact Customer Service with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by submitting them directly to their website through their Contact Us page.

This company is providing a relatively controversial service at this time. Their creator, Ron Gutman, says that his company is providing a valuable service that consumers are really looking for. There is a reason that people frequent websites like WebMD – they may be short on time or unsure if they should really be seeking medical attention for their concerns.

The problem, according to Gutman, is that these websites can scare people or provide them with incorrect information, which ultimately can create a situation that is worse for the patient. HealthTap gives people a place to speak to a real doctor and receive better quality information and guidance.

Unfortunately, many members of the medical community say that this website isn’t really much of an improvement over the rest of the medical information websites. They say it continues the issue of making people believe they don’t really have to see their doctor or maintain a relationship with a primary care physician, which is really the best way to get quality healthcare that protects people and keeps them healthy.

Customers will need to make their own judgment call on what they feel is the best way to meet their own needs.

Competitors and Alternatives?

As mentioned above, there are many other online health websites which use automated features in which to try and help people get an understanding of what issues and conditions they may be suffering from, but there are far fewer websites that actually connect patients directly with real doctors to whom they can speak.
