Fluenz, found online at RocketLanguages.com, is an online software company which says that they produce award winning online language learning courses for users from all around the world.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, Fluenz says that most other language learning programs approach the learning of a new language in the same way – total language immersion, where the learner is instantly exposed to the foreign language and is expected to interact in a foreign language right away.
This has been a popular way to approach language learning, because it is how children are able to successfully learn language early in life. Unfortunately, studies have shown that this type of learning is not appropriate when teaching adults a foreign language.
Adults have the advantage of knowing “an entire system of grammar and vocabulary” from their own first language. This is why Fluenz approaches their foreign language teaching by relating the grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of the language they already know to the one they are trying to learn.
Their website says that it doesn’t make any sense to teach each and every foreign language in the same way. Because different foreign languages function differently, it doesn’t make any sense to teach Mandarin the way you would teach Spanish. Fluenz says that their courses approach each language individually, making them a more common sense method of teaching.
Since this company sells such a wide variety of language courses, customers may notice some variation in pricing depending on what language and course they choose. That being said, the website appears to price their programs in between $177 and $368, depending on what personal choices you make about the program you are purchasing and the levels and materials you want included.
This company has a very vague and concerning approach to their Return and Refund Policy. First of all, their website barely references a customer’s need to return their product if they are unhappy with it, and when they do, it is in a single reference on their Frequently Asked Questions page, where all they say is “follow this link to our returns process.”
Unfortunately there actually isn’t a link, so customers are unable to find the necessary information they need to understand returns and refunds. In addition, this website does not provide any information at all in their Terms and Conditions about returns or refunds.
It seems that at this time, a customer’s only option to understanding these policies would be to contact their Customer Service team and ask them directly about what policies they have in place to benefit and protect customers that are unhappy with their courses. Customers should make sure to do this before they have purchased one of their products, just in case they policy they have in place isn’t standard.
Customer Service Contact Info
Customers who would like to contact their Customer Service team with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by submitting them directly to their website through their Support link.
In general this software does receive positive reviews for their approach to foreign language learning, though some users have mentioned that their approach feels more formal and “classroom like” than other software programs. However, the fact that this company doesn’t provide good information about their Refund Policy isn’t good for the customer, and any customer considering this program will need to contact their Customer Service team to have this cleared up before they purchase a program.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many different types of online courses and software which attempt to give people an effective way to learn a foreign language from the comfort of their own home, including the world famous Rosetta Stone but also other well-known programs like Rocket Languages, Pimsleur Approach, DuoLingo, and more.
