About Fluent Forever App

Planning a vacation abroad? If so, you may have picked up a copy of the local guidebook or translation dictionary and realized that your understanding of that country’s language is less than ideal. If you’re looking to brush up on your language skills - or learn a new language entirely - Fluent Forever could be the app to help accelerate you from a rusty understanding of the language to a native speaker in no time.

How Does Fluent Forever Work?

This app was designed by a former opera singer turned inventor - hailing from Chicago, this creator wanted to make it easier for anybody to learn a language via a smartphone. This method is one that everybody can use, no matter where you live or what kind of background you have in language learning. It makes the idea of how to learn any language a concept that is not so far out of reach for everyday citizens.

Fluent Forever is a digital flashcard system that combines vocabulary words with full sentences and recognizable images, making it easy to learn a language. This system will allow you to both speak and think a new language and was inspired by creator GabrieL Wyner’s experiences trying to learn French.

After engaging in an intermediate-level language class, Wyner realized the need for an app that was updated to meet current trends and technologies. He launched a crowdfunding campaign to start his own, and Fluent Forever was created as a result.

The Fluent Forever App provides learners with digital flashcards for the 625 most common words in the target language. One side of the card will feature the given vocabulary word, but in a unique twist, the other side of the flashed will require users to select from multiple sentences in French that contain the word, along with an image that represents the sentence. Then, users will have to review the flashcards at targeted time intervals, each of which are designed to promote long-term memorization.

This method offers added context for words, requiring users to choose corresponding images. It triggers a rich encoding of the material, helping people remember the concept and pictures related to the word so that they are able to retrieve it in the long term.

Currently, flashcard decks are available in a wide variety of languages, including Portuguese, Dutch, Korean, German, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, Hebrew, English, Russian, Italian, and French. The company claims that you can go from zero to fluent in just six months, offering spart, personalized flashcards as well as intelligent vocabulary order and spaced repetition. The app even offers a pronunciation trainer and customized word lists for you to gain an understanding of your chosen language more quickly.

Cost and Price Plans

There are multiple subscription options available to users who are interested in giving Fluent Forever a try. The most basic subscription is the monthly plan, which starts at $9.99 per month. Your card is charged once and then is not charged again. You receive regular updates with new features and free app usage in all available languages. The six-month subscription costs $8.99 per month, with a one-time fee of $53.94 to cover the long term subscription.

You can also choose from twelve and twenty-four month subscriptions. The twelve-month subscription breaks down to $7.99 per month, while the 24 month comes in at $6.99 per month. Again, you pay the upfront service fee, and then don’t have to worry about charging your card again for the rest of the subscription period. With the exception of the monthly plan, all plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Customer Service

Fluent Forever’s customer service team can be a bit challenging to contact. The website includes a detailed knowledge base where you can find answers to common questions, but it’s tough to find contact information for the company on their website. No phone number is listed, but you can email them at [email protected]

If you decide to cancel your subscription, you need to make sure you contact the company to do so. Simply deleting the app from your smartphone will not take care of this for you, and your card will continue to be charged based on your subscription terms. The company offers no refunds if you choose to close your account.

Competitors and Alternatives

Every language learner is a little bit different, and Fluent Forever is far from the first app to address everybody’s unique language needs. There are so many new apps that have come to market even within the last couple of years, and while all appeal to visual, time-pressed learners, some of the best alternatives to Fluent Forever include Anki, Duolingo, and Babble.

Duolingo is one of the oldest and most popular language learning apps. This program rose to popularity quickly, and when you consider Fluent Forever vs Duolingo, there is one distinctive advantage to the latter. It’s free. You can upgrade to a $9.99 per month ad-free version, but you don’t have to worry about paying a monthly or yearly fee as you do with Fluent Forever. That being said, it doesn’t offer advanced levels like Fluent Forever does.

Fluent Forever vs Anki is another consideration you might make. This app is cross-platform, allowing you to sync to all devices so that you can study both on and offline. This app is not exclusive to languages, and offers training programs in a wide variety of skill sets. You can choose from multiple different premade flashcards or even choose your own.

Finally, think about Fluent Forever vs. Babbel. Babbel can be used on a smartphone or tablet and offers bite-sized lessons in segments of ten or fifteen minutes. You can sync your progress across multiple devices, allowing you to pick up quickly between lessons. Registration is free of charge and free to try, but you do have to ultimately subscribe for full service. A wide variety of languages are available, most of which are also found with Fluent Forever.

Where to Buy?

You can download Fluent Forever from the company’s website, or by visiting the Apple Store or Google Play, depending on the type of device you want to use it on.

Is Fluent Forever Worth It?

If you're hoping to pick up a second (or third, or fourth!) language and don’t have the time to dedicate to lengthy night classes or monotonous workbooks, Fluent Forever might be the right choice for you. It offers a language learning solution that is designed with the smartphone-centered learner in mind, allowing you to learn content in a way that is applicable and memorable for your specific learning style.
