Flightcar, found online at Flightcar.com, is a new service that allows people who are parking their car at the airport not only save money on parking, but also earn money for renting their car out to prescreened renters.
How Does It Work?
Car owners who travel regularly can register for free to rent out their car while they are out of town. Once your registration is complete, when members travel they will take their car to a participating Flightcar parking lot and park it for free, and their car service will drop you off at the airport.
No matter what, your car will receive free parking at their lot and a car wash, even if it isn't rented out during your trip. If it is rented out, you will also be paid for the use of your car based on the miles that are driven while it is rented.
In addition, they promise that each car rented through their service is insured up to $1 million, and that each renter that uses their service has been pre-screened for eligibility.
Joining their service is free, and if your car is rented as a Standard Vehicle you'll be paid $.10 per mile, and if it qualifies as a Luxury Vehicle you'll be paid $.20 per mile. If your car is driven more than 75 miles per day, you'll be paid $.40 for each mile over 75.
Since this service is free for car owners to participate in, they do not offer a Refund Policy to them. Customers who are renting cars will want to know both their cancellation policies and potential for refunds up front.
Customer Service Contact Info
Customers who would like to contact their Customer Service team with questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by phone at 844-435-8227 or by email at [email protected]
This service does have positive reviews from users who have enjoyed their experiences mostly due to their quality customer service and lower prices when compared to other car rental services, however, they are only available in Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco at this time.
Competitors and Alternatives?
While there are many rental car companies out there, services that allow regular car owners to rent their car out are fewer and far between, with Flightcar and RelayRides being two of the most well known at this time.

2 ‘Flightcar’ Reviews
My review is for lending your car to Flightcar. Their customer service is frustrating and totally disorganizedl, I had to email 4 times to get the fines on my car taken care of. I had to email more than 4 times about the damage done to my car and 2 months later it has still not been solved! It is not worth it, it was a really frustrating experience. I do not recommend you lend them your car and I cannot imagine renting from them will be any better or easier.
SAVE YOURSELF A HUGE HEADACHE AND RUN, DON'T WALK, TO ANOTHER CAR RENTAL COMPANY. After reading similar reviews in other markets and watching other issues other renters were having while I was there at the location, I would be highly skeptical of the positive reviews as they are paid for by the company itself. This company is not transparent on their process, does not give you proof of condition of car PRE rental, nor original odometer, nor original gas level prior to driving off the lot unless you dig in and demand it. They act like you are crazy to request such things. THEN they tell you "WE have a copy of those things". Great -- make ME feel comfortable and give ME a copy of those things before telling me to drive away in the car. THEN when you return the car, they ask you to sign something that says they can contact you up to SIX MONTHS LATER with damage claims! If they weren't so serious, I would think I was on candid camera and this was a joke. Their business IS a joke. They try to work off tablets which don't seem to work and they expect you to sign away all your rights as a consumer. OH, and to top it all off, I returned the car an hour EARLY and they hit me with a $40 late fee. Company was founded by teenagers and it shows. Interesting idea for a business but RENTER BEWARE.
