About Elance.com

ELance.com is a website connecting clients to freelance contractors. Some of the types of contractors include programmers, designers, writers, marketers, consultants, accountants, and much more. It is suited to meet the needs of both those who are trying to find a qualified worker as well as those who are looking for independent work assignments.

ELance.com clients can post jobs for free and may also search through the database of profiles for freelance workers. When posting a job for an assignment, there should be a detailed description of the work to be done and how much will be paid for that project, either an hourly wage or a per-project rate.

On the other side of the ELance.com platform, freelance workers can search through jobs posts and apply for them directly through the site. In addition contractors can create a profile to increase exposure to the network of clients on their site.

After a client and contractor agree to work together, that specific job is assigned a private workroom. Clients can collaborate with contractors to view the work in progress and track the status of the project to ensure it is moving along. The virtual workplace is especially beneficial to clients who hire contractors that are not in close proximity of their business location.

The payment process is managed directly by ELance. Clients submit their option of payment to ELance; forms of payment include credit cards, PayPal, bank transfers, debit cards, ACH transfers or checks. ELance then holds the negotiated payment amount in an escrow account and as certain benchmarks are met, a portion of the payment will be released into the contractors account. When the project has been completed and approved, the rest of the money will be transferred to the contractor.

Fees paid to ELance are collected through a number of different avenues. Contractors must pay a minimum $10.00 fee each month for client connections and $5.00 for every skill they want to add to their profile. To increase profile ranking within the database, contractors can pay to take tests through their system to earn extra accreditations.

Additional fees are deducted from the clients’ payments before being released to their freelance workers, ranging anywhere from 6.75%-8.75%. On top of that, there is a transfer fee and a $10.00 fee to keep a credit card active. Clients and contractors must use their payment system for a minimum of 24 months; this term of condition prevents their members from circumventing their fee based payment system. To opt-out of this system, it will cost $750.00.

Reviews online from contractors vary, with both positive, and negative opinions. Some workers are fortunate to get assignments quickly and make money through the site. Unfortunately, some highly qualified contractors are overlooked because clients are looking for cheaper labor, since contractors are responsible for many monthly fees.

Review all of your options before committing to a fee based online service. Research other sites and use local resources to find assignments. Most importantly, always read the terms of service before agreeing to anything.

Aman Aggarwal Expert in Databases and Server Administration. scammer!

April13, 2015

I asked Elance for a refund, but their customer service is poor and they told me they "never received a complaint". aman619aggarwal is the worst of the worst. I basically held his hand and gave him more than enough information (SQLFiddle with proper data, a somewhat working query, and explicit instructions) and he still dropped the ball. He kept sending me queries which were exactly not what I asked for, and after I told him this, he tried sending me random queries and asked me to "try them out". They didn't even return what I was looking for in the SQLFiddle much less my actual site. I would NOT recommend him, and frankly, I wouldn't recommend Elance either.
Please be careful of this Elance scammer he just stolen from me $ 700!
When you authorize it to do the job
He just asks for more money and claim you did not describe properly the task.
