The Early Moments Book Club, found online at EarlyMoments.com, is a website that promises to provide parents and children with “the highest-quality, most enjoyable reading experiences possible.”

How Does It Work?

According to their website, the people who founded Early Moments were not just editors and publishers, but parents with backgrounds in education who are deeply committed to promoting early childhood literacy. 

The website states that parents who read with their child every day and makes sure that they have access to relevant and engaging books can help prepare children for a lifetime of learning and reading enjoyment. 

Currently they offer their book club memberships based on the age of your child. These clubs begin with their Baby Einstein offerings which cover ages 0-3, to the Disney Wonderful World of Reading for ages 2-6, and the Sesame Street Learning Adventure for ages 3-5. 

They also offer a Hooked on Phonics club for children ages 3-8, a Dr. Seuss club for ages 4-8, and the Cat in the Hat Learning Library also for ages 4-8.

Cost/Price Plans

Unfortunately, this company sells so many products that it is nearly impossible to understand exactly what things are priced or will actually cost, though they do publish a general understanding of how their membership system works. 

First, customers who choose a program will be sent a Welcome Package. This is described as “an exceptional package at an amazing price” which acts as an introduction to the types of books and materials you can expect if you continue to be a member. 

If you keep your Welcome Package, you will be considered a member of Early Moments and every three weeks another package of two or three books will be sent to your home along with an invoice describing the charges you will need to pay to keep your new package. 

Refund Policy

The website’s Refund Policy is built directly into their membership format. This means that when you receive your Welcome Package, if you are unhappy with what you have received you should “keep any free gifts” but return the rest of the Package to them for a refund. Any further book packages you receive you will also need to be returned in order to avoid being charged for them. Regardless of how many packages you return, however, you will continue receiving books and invoices until you call and cancel your membership.

As mentioned above, this company employs a membership payment schedule which isn’t well explained and published on their website, and has led to many, many complaints being recorded online. People didn’t understand that they were going to be charged an additional $20 every three weeks for books they didn’t order, and when they wanted to return the books they mention having to pay $10 on average for shipping a box of three books. 

Even customers who understood that they would be regularly sent books claimed that even after they canceled their membership they were still sent books and charged for them. When they called the company to explain they had canceled their membership, they were told it was still their responsibility to pay to ship back the items that had been sent to them, even though they believed these items had been sent in error and they shouldn’t have to be financially responsible for the company’s mistake.     

Competitors and Alternatives?

This type of book club, where members are sent books that they haven’t personally chosen, are not uncommon, they have actually been around for many decades and were popular in the 80s and 90s. Some people see this kind of service as convenient, while other parents simply want to choose their child’s reading material directly. Parents will need to consider what their personal preference is before signing up for this membership.

Scammy business

This company "Early Moments" is a lousy business out to just make money from people whom they tried to deceive by scamming them thru freebies and eventually just automatically put you into subscription and never notify you before delivery. They won't give me a refund though I did not open the package and just sent it back. They said they charge me a postal fee to deliver the books but won't refund me even if I did not honor /accept the delivery and had actually sent the books unopened in their original package. This is a scammy business. Beware of this company. I will post more negative reviews like this if you still don't refund the full charges

subscription scam

I like your books, and my kids love them too.

but I really don't like the way you do business, and the way you handle cancellations.
Using cheap first shipment to get customers and hope them don't know whey already subscript to monthly shipment, or hope them forget to cancel or at least at the time of cancellation is at least one month later at the time charge show up in credit card, which already charge about $100 for 4 shipments

nobody like surprise charge on credit card
nobody like to pay shipping for cancellation

I don't think you should do business this way.

Duped for $70

I ordered books for $3.99 in June. Received it in July. Didn't sign for any subscription. I have all mails and nowhere it's mentioned about
monthly subscription.

I was charged on 9/4, 10/14, 10/21 for$22, $22,$27 respectively. I moved from my previous place to another state in September 1 st week. Neither have I received any books and nor any mails stating we have sent you books with tracking details.

These people are bunch of thugs. They took away joy of reading from kids. Customer service is a joke and they have an audacity to tell customer that you are duped, your money and card details are with us and we will use it as we please.

Please, go and Rob banks if you could. Don't steal from parents. Though they have cancelled my subscription but as others are saying still they will keep sending books nowhere and keep charging I nocent

Such a scam

I signed up for the 4 books per month club and at checkout it said I was charged $2.17 after tax and shipping, I thought oh that's awesome. What a great baby shower gift. We waited and waited and waited. Two months went by and nothing showed up. I even double checked my address. Still nothing. I checked my bank statements and I was being charged 29.85$ per month by the company. When I called customer service it took her 15 mins to cancel my account and supposedly she refunded me all the charges. That was over 2 weeks ago and I still don't have the money back! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS SUBSCRIPTION!

Early Moments - 2 shipments in 4 days

I have been a member of Early Moments Book Club for about a year.
I just reviewed my bank statement and found out that my regular monthly shipment shipped out on 11/10/16 for $ 21.96 and four days later on 11/14/16 another shipment was sent out and deducted from my account for $ 26.94. I had no idea that both were coming out of my bank account in one week. I did not order or request an additional shipment. They just did it. I have cancelled my membership and hopefully will not receive another shipment. I was told the second shipment was some kind of holiday shipment. Also do not trust the option to put your account on hold for a month or two. I did that via the website and still received shipments when I was not expecting them.

I have tried to send books to my granddaughter I updated my credit card all it does is kept taking out 1 cent I have email numerous times with nothing resolved and no books
