About Children Learning Reading System
The Children Learning Reading System is an at home program designed for parents who want to not only help their children learn how to read at a young age, but also give them the necessary building blocks to help them continue being successful.
How Does It Work?
According to the creator of the program, most other at home reading systems designed for young children focus on a theory of reading called “whole language.” A very simplified explanation of the whole language approach is that children are taught to read based on recognition of whole words and their corresponding meaning. The Children Learning Reading System, on the other hand, takes a traditional phonetic approach to teaching young children how to read.
Again, a very simplistic explanation of the difference between the two choices is that in whole language children would be shown a picture of an apple along with the word “apple.” The word would be sounded out while placed next to the corresponding picture.
In the phonetic approach, the picture of the apple would be placed next to the single letter “A” and the instructor would stress the sound the letter A makes in the word apple, and then would show other images of words that start with A, always emphasizing the single sound of the letter A.
ChildrenLearningReading.com argues that studies have shown that the whole language approach can be effective for young readers, but can actually cause problems later on in life when reading skills are challenged and expanded.
Instead, Children Learning is wholly concentrated on a phonetic approach, which they say is not only effective for teaching young readers early on, but also provides a strong base for being successful throughout their lives as readers. In addition, all lessons are designed to be done in 3-5 minute increments, to work with the shortened attention span of toddlers and young children.
The Standard package available for this product costs $49.95, and includes two levels of instructional reading videos, as well as six bonus reading instruction materials. The Premium package is priced at $69.95, and includes all the same materials as the Standard package, as well as five additional premium bonuses, which are a mix of printed lessons and additional videos.
ChildrenLearningReading.com states that they offer a 60 Day Money Back refund to their customers who receive their product and are unhappy with what they’ve received. The debate between using the whole language approach to reading or the phonetic approach to reading is a very controversial and often very passionate debate. The New York Times published an article on this debate, saying that the National Academy of Sciences was “pleading for an end to the reading wars.”
While proponents of both methods are quick to point out the problems and complaints associated with the other method, the National Academy of Sciences has said that the result of their studies shows that using a combination of both methods is actually the best approach for most readers, which is not surprising because success in learning is often due to a combination of varied learning styles and approaches.
So, while the Children Learning Reading System is not wrong when they accuse the whole language approach of having a record of failure, they are also not right when they behave as though the phonetic approach is guaranteed to be the best for all learners.
That being said, this program does appear to have many different positive reviews online, though it must be mentioned that many of these reviews appear to be from affiliates.
