BraintreePayments.com is the online home of Braintree, a company that says they can provide you with everything you need for companies all over the world to accept payments online.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, Braintree makes it possible for companies and their customers to process payments with a single touch, saying that they “build the technology” while you make it meaningful with your ideas.
Their platform works with both mobile apps and websites, giving companies the ability to replace the usual need for sourcing a payment gateway and merchant account from different providers.
Their website says that an experienced developer can complete your integration with the Braintree platform in under thirty minutes, though this can vary significantly based on your project’s individual complexity and the developer’s experience level.
Companies can use their platform in concert with most other leading ecommerce platforms, like Shopify, Magento, Wufoo, and more, and they can accept many different foreign currencies, as well as Bitcoin, and payments from PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Android Pay, and whatever comes next.
And though Braintree says that they are able to work with any kind of company in any industry, their website does say that “due to legal and regulatory compliance reasons, we are unable to work with some business types.” Full information on their legal restrictions are published in their “Acceptable Use Policy.”
Braintree is very clear about their fees. For any company that signs up with their services, the first $50,000 in transactions will take place without any fees at all. After you have reached $50K, all transactions will be subject to a fee of 2.9% and $0.30. Their pricing includes v.zero, Marketplace, recurring billing, and more.
Their services charge no minimum or monthly fees, no sign up fees, no charges for card storage, reporting, or PCI compliance, though multi-currency transactions will be billed an additional 1% and all chargebacks are assessed a $15 fee.
If your business processes more than $80,000 in transactions per month, you will need to contact them directly for custom pricing, at [email protected]
The Braintree website does not provide any information about refunds of the fees they charge you, but this is likely because they charge no fees outside of those that take place when a transaction is successfully conducted. However, they do say that when one of your customers requests a full refund, the fees you paid for the transaction will be refunded as well, but only in the cases of a full refund, and not partial refunds.

While there are not very many reviews of this company available from their customers and clients at this time, those that are available do appear to be generally very positive and complimentary about what this company has to offer and how it can help your business.
Really the only complaint that was mentioned had to do with the high cost of Braintree’s services in the past, though reviews from independent publications pointed that their new pricing structure is very favorable, making it easier for companies of all sizes and with varying levels of cash flow to use their services conveniently.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many other companies out there that promise to give people similar services and features, since billing platforms and cloud based services are important for many businesses operating and competing in today’s market. Competitors include Zuora, Chargify, NetSuite, Apttus, and many others.
