How Does It Work?
According to their website, the creators of BonAppetour believed that traveling wasn’t just about going to touristy restaurants and site seeing locales. Instead, they thought of a travel experience where people could meet and spend time with real people from the local area to have truly authentic cultural experiences.
In order to do this, they provide a place where locals can set up their own authentic dining experiences, including a menu, a location, and an ambience. Travelers who are coming to their local area can choose which of these experiences they are interested in and email the host in order to make a reservation and to explain if there are any allergies or other dietary restrictions which may need to be taken into consideration.
There is no set price per person that is charged, as the price of any dining experience reserved on this website is set directly by the host themselves. BonAppetour directs their hosts to take into consideration the type and amount of ingredients they will need to purchase and the time they put into cooking the food, hosting the dinner, and cleaning up afterward in order to set their price. The website says that hosts should consider what their dinner would be priced at a comparable restaurant, and set their price slightly below that.
Once the host has set the price, BonAppetour will add an additional 15% service fee on top of this price which will be paid by the guests attending the dinner. This fee is intended to cover all the administrative costs of the website.
The BonAppetour website is very clear that the host of the event will have significant say in whether or not a cancellation was made in enough time to be able to provide a refund, but as a general guideline they do say that any cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will not be issued any refund unless the host specifically decides otherwise.
If you are able to cancel in advance of 24 hours but less than one week before the reservation, BonAppetour will try to coordinate a full refund of reservation amount, less the cost of any service fees.
If an event is cancelled by the host, rather than by a guest, the guest will receive a full refund of the reservation amount, less the cost of the service fees. The guest will also be given vouchers toward their service, as well as assistance attempting to find another host in the area who will provide them with a dining experience.
