Boatbound is a new service who says that their goal is to make recreational boating more accessible to people of all ages, races, and income levels by connecting local boat owners with local or traveling boat renters.
How Does It Work?
According to the website, renters can use their site to find all manner of recreational water vehicles, from kayaks to yachts and everything in between. Interested renters can join this website completely for free and can rent boats with captains and without captains, as long as they are at least 25 years of age.
The website also says that boat owners can use this service to offset the storage and maintenance costs of boat ownership by renting out their boat twice a month. In addition, both boat owners and renters benefit from the fact that Boatbound insures all the boats that are rented through their service, as well as providing any water related services the day of the rental if they are necessary.
The cost of your rental will be dependent on the type of recreational water vehicle you are renting, the length of the rental period, and the location and date of your rental. However, renters should know that all rental fees and security deposits will be taken from your account at least 72 hours before the rental period.
Renters who cancel their reservations more than 5 days before the rental date are eligible to receive a full refund, less the service fees. Renters who cancel less than five days before the rental period are not eligible for any refunds.
If rental cancellations must be made due to "Extenuating Circumstances," such as a death in the family, natural disaster, or safety related issues like thunderstorms, renters will receive a full refund.

Third party independent reviewers are very enthusiastic about this service, mostly because of the opportunity it affords boat owners to offset the costs of owning a boat.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many other commercial services that specialize in boat rentals, but Boatbound is unique in their approach to allowing local boat owners a chance to rent out their ships and other recreational water craft.

The Boat we chartered was a nightmare from the start. The pictures on line show a new pristine well kept boat but the actual boat was a weathered piece of Junk called Serenity docked in front of the eden Roc in Miami Beach. We paid in advance and were at the dock at the scheduled time 11am the captain never showed they had to scramble to find a replacement so we didn't get on the boat till 1:30 pm. When we got on the boat the seats were torn up the carpet smelled and had huge stains everywhere. The stereo didn't work the bathrooms were broken and the anchor didn't work the tvs didnt have service the whole thing was a mess and the boat was HORRIBLE do not use this company and especially this boat garbage
First time trying to rent a boat and their lack of commitment/communication says everything about how reputable this site is. Requested a booking in advance for Sunday on a Tuesday night. The "Supposedly owner got back to me on a Friday night declining the request. apologizing he did not saw the request email, a [email protected]#$%^& joke......
This site does not allows but to only write positive reviews. it doesn't even allow you to submit a comment once the request has started.
I found this not legit.
In regards to their added fees, nothing adds up.
Will not recommend to anyone.
I was extremely nervous renting our boat for the first time in 2015. About 10 rentals later I have become a huge fan of the service. An owner gets 65% of the rental rate. About 20% of the rental rate goes towards insurance. I would not rent our boat if not for the enormous amount of insurance coverage. Most rentals are families who simply want a day on the water to take their kids tubing/skiing, or cruise around. Most times the boat is returned as clean as it left. I have renters from 2015 wanting to rent again this year, and I have not had a single renter that doesn't absolutely love the boat. I have renter reviews posted on my boat, so feel free to visit their site, search for boats in zip code 49456 and pick the Four Winns Horizon 260 on Spring Lake. As of 7/30/16, I have 6 honest reviews. An owner has no control over reviews posted and cannot alter or delete any review. Overall, it has been a great service for us and covers all of our maintenance, fuel and storage costs for the year......and then some. Love it !!!
Don't use this service! They do a bait and switch on you to up the price!!! Rental Sevices hide behind Boat Bound and offer low rentals send confirmations and then later inform you that the one you rented is no longer available. We want everyone to know!
This company charges a large percentage to supposidly screen the renters and list your boat, and supply a third party insurance policy from GEICO. They clearly do not screen the renters as they screened someone who just did damage to my boat to the amount of $28,500.
GEICO says almost all of these repairs are normal maintenance issues! Strange that I just picked up my boat from the dealer the day before for the rental for its 100 hour service and everything was perfect with the boat.
I have contacted Boat Bound and they are providing no assistance with me getting GEICO to step up for the repairs!
I would not recommend anyone using this service!
This service is a waste of time. The prices have all sorts of hidden fees -- expect to pay at least 20% more than the listing price. It is also near impossible to rent a boat since the owners do not keep their schedules updated. Tried to rent three boats for the same day and all the owners said they were too busy. There needs to be more accountability on owners to make this site work, and get rid of the sleazy hidden fees.
