Airtasker.com is the online home of Airtasker, a company that says they have been trusted by more than 1.3 million people in Australia to find the help they need to complete their household tasks.
How Does It Work?
Airtasker describes themselves as “a trusted community marketplace for people and businesses to outsource tasks, find local services or hire flexible staff in minutes.” Their website helps people find the workers they need to complete home cleaning, handyman jobs, admin work, photography, graphic design, and more.
In addition, they claim that their Airtasker Workers can earn up to $5,000 per month just by completing tasks, and that all Workers are their own boss, only taking the jobs they truly want to do and working with the people they choose.
Job Posters will list their task on the website along with the payment they are willing to offer once the task is completed. They then arrange with the Worker the requirements of the task and arrange the completion. Once it is done to the Poster’s satisfaction, Airtasker will release the agreed upon payment to the Worker.
Workers and Posters are also able to leave each other reviews so that other members can see how it is to work with you, and the longer you use the website the better your reputation will appear and the easier it will be to get or arrange jobs.
Their website says that they do offer their customers a mobile application which can be downloaded to either iOS and Android devices.
Their website does provide a guide which helps Job Posters determine what fee to offer for their task. They ask that you take into consideration the time, skill, and effort to get your task completed when setting your fee.
They do require that Job Posters set a single fee that is guaranteed to be paid once the task is completed. They do not allow their Posters to offer hourly or unit fees, nor do they allow Posters to offer tasks where the payments are negotiated. Finally, their website is only successful when pricing is fair for both parties, so people who offer unreasonably low fees for their task will have their job flagged and removed.
Finally, Airtasker themselves does take a Service Fee from all transactions which are made through their website. They say that once a task has been completed and the payment is being released to your Airtasker Worker they will remove a 15% fee before it is transferred.
This company is very clear that the Airtasker Workers do not actually work for Airtasker. The agreement that is made between the Job Poster and the Worker is a contract between the two parties, and therefore the first step in the potential refund process is to simply speak directly to the Worker in regards to why you believe you deserve a refund.
If the two parties are unable to agree on a refund arrangement, Airtasker will then step in and mediate the situation between the two parties to try and reach a reasonable conclusion. They also ask that in order to avoid difficult situations that Job Posters provide as much detail and direction in their task posting as possible to avoid misunderstandings and confusion.
Job Posters who cancel their task before it has been completed will be given an automatic refund as long as the cancellation request isn’t challenged within the first 48 hours.
