Shopper Services

Shopper Services is an online service that claims to provide a variety of secret shopping resources to its members.  These include secret shopping training materials, certifications, and local job opportunity listings.  The question is do you really need Shopper Services to succeed as a secret shopper?

If you don't already know, secret shopping is a tool that small and large companies use to check the quality of their employees' performance and customer service.  Basically, everyone knows that when your manager is around you will work hard, but a secret shopper lets companies test their employees in a realistic environment with no supervision.

Shopper Services has been around since August of 2003 and they make an effort to connect companies with a wide selection of secret shoppers.  However, the reason that many people complain about Shopper Service is because the company charges a membership fee and sign their members up for additional services.

The only way to join ShopperServices is to call a customer service rep who will take your information and mail you a $1.95 trial membership kit.  They will also sign you up for Explore USA and Value Plus all trial memberships that you will have to cancel to avoid further payments.

On top of this members that are familiar with secret shopping resources have accused Shopper Services of simply taking their money and redirecting them to existing secret shopping websites where free information is available.

The Shopper Services training has also come under fire since all they do is send you to a fast food chain to do a sample report.  This is a waste of time since you could actually be doing a real secret shopping job instead.

The truth is that you shouldn't have to pay for secret shopping information or training.  There are several free online forums where members share strategies, job locations, and additional resources.

I work online with a method where you can make a great online income from your home computer whenever you have time.  The best part is it's free to join and I won't charge you anything for the information, find out more Click Here.

Best of Luck,
Steve Albright

good thing for this site and a gut feeling! i saw the ad for this company posted on a local help wanted site (you would think they would screen for these things!). I called...the lady on the phone was really nice and I asked her straight up if this was a scam and she said if i'd like to check it out online and call back that would be fine. but no...I continued...gave her my name, addy and email addy...stopped when she asked for a creditcard number...smartest move I made through the whole thing. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO PAY A COMPANY TO WORK FOR THEM...THEY PAY YOU! If you've already given them your credit card number, don't even bother trying to get in touch with these people...you will get a runaround. call your credit card/bank IMMEDIATELY...do NOT wait for monday, do it NOW don't waste time. the longer you wait, the more charges you get. And you think 1.95 ISN'T ALOT? Imagine MILLIONS of people thinking the SAME THING!

i called them from a pennysavers ads just hoping to get some money for college. when i called they were rushing me and pressuring me and were very rude. when they told me they had to record me they added some BS like surplus service and easy saver free trial. i told them i didn't want to sign up for those. i hope the guy didn't sign me up so i don't have to cancel that. an hr later, i realized that i just gave out my personal information OVER THE TELEPHONE!! i canceled my credit card and am going to cancel my membership tomorrow morning. i am now afraid on what they can do with my billing infomation such as address and my first and last name. i am very scared to tell my parents that i got scammed and had to cancel the credit card. being just 18 years old i finally realized how stupid i am and how gullible. after reading ALL THE COMMENTS i realized how people are easily tricked like myself. and that there are SOO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE BEING TRICKED BY THESE SCAMMERS!! i am real... read more »

I worked for this company. I thought it was easy money and an easy job. Yes, there is a script and the management tells the new employee that we are providing jobs to people and the other "upsells" are other ways for the customer to make money. I bought into this and thought I was providing a service for people. I found out real quick that this was a "boiler room" and that the majority of the workers were scamming people. The few people I met there were like me and had know idea what they were doing to the people calling in, but the veterans that had been doing this awhile knew exactly how to manipulate the callers and "sell" the products to the callers. The employees made the majority of the money on the additional sales. The customer thought they were getting a job, but ended up tied to 3 or 4 web-sites that they were not interested in
The management of this company, are the most despicable people I have ever met and once I figured out what was going I QUIT!!!!!

I posted before saying how this was a scam earlier. I decided to come back and see what's happened since and it's very sad. Yes you do have to verbally say yes you agree to the charges, but what's bad is that you're paying for something you can get for free. Also the upsells you agree to pay for are scams as well. They continue to take your money even if you cancel. On my first actual day of work, I left on my lunch break and didn't come back. Yeah it's called the Veracity group to try and cover their butts. I don't know it it's still off of I30 just east of 635 in Dallas in a little office building, but they definitely need to be shut down

Look... They will take your money for services you can get for free. There are thousands of websites that do the same thing out there for $0.00. Don't get scammed. It should be obvious when you call them because you want to make more money and then they turn around and take money from you. That's what you call a scam. Fuck Shopper Services, they'll burn for what they do to good people.

I have never dealt with this company. I have heard of many people who have. Once they sign up there bank accounts, and credit cards are drained. Alot of people incur overdraft fees, and over limit fees from their bank. Some say they never receive anything and never agree to the additional services. One person said when she checked her bank account, there was six charges on her credit card statement. She had to call the bank to put a block on her bank account. Another person's credit card company called to alert them. Be very leary about this company. Do not answer the ad in the paper. From what i hear it leads to nowhere.

Yeah I worked there last year and quit after my first day on the phone. Yeah there are ads all over the us and all the calls were sent to that office. When we ask for your zip code and tell you there are a lot of shops in your area is just a bunch of bs. We type the zip code, such as 75243 and dallas comes up in our screen and we pause then say well, there are quite a few shops in your area! All we really see on the screen is that line I just typed just like the rest of the script. Thankfully I was a bad salesperson and didn't sell anything.

OMG, do not sign up for this crap. It is just a damn scam. I signed up on September third 2008 and the rep told me it would just cost $1.95 to sign up then I would have to fill stuff out once I was logged in. The rep I spoke to said it was a 14 day trial membership and that I would be charged 19.95 a month after the 14 days If I did not cancel it. Some of you were sent training material in the mail, I was never even sent that. I was just told to go to the website after the call and log in then I would be able to take the test. The rep told me more than once on the phone that the mystery shopping thing was just 1.95 and that the 19.95 would only be charged after 14 days if I did not cancel. Like many of you the first time I tried after signing up I could not log into the website. I called back and told the rep I could not log in she checked stuff out for me and I was able to log in. If it sounds too good to be true then don't waste your time, let alone money. Mystery Shopper my ___. More like mystery thieves. Less than 30 days after calling the Pennysaver ad my bank account was billed for over $200.00 by companies I had never heard of. Nor did the "sales rep" mention that it only took clicking on one of their various websites for them to think it was ok to bill you for yet another enrollment fee. One of the employees I spoke to trying to cancel their service wanted to 'just quickly' tell me about some of their "other opportunites" before processing my cancellation request. Hope she didn't take it personally when I told her I was recording our conversation and didn't have enough tape to listen to yet another shady scam. My bank was very understanding when I explained my situation and said sadly it was a story they were all too familiar with. So, I have been reimbursed for most of the charges by the bank and will be sending copies of my fraud case to the BBB,... read more »

I have a 3 year old and wanted some extra income, when I called to sign up, there was a problem with my card address, when I called my bank to fix it, I happened to check my account, and ShopperServices had already charged my account, TWICE!! man, thanks a lot for your input..

i just saw the ad

"Earn upto $150/per day. Get PAID to SHOP. PT/FT. CALL NOW! 1-888-727-0598."

And i did call today, due to excitement..but when the guy over the phone started saying i had to pay $1.95 and when he asked for my info, my instincts told me to check the company first..and so, i asked the guy what the company's name is and he said "Surplus Supplier & Shopper services"..

I knew I had to check out the company first before giving my debit card number..

Good thing I did..and good thing i read your comments and complaints..

Thanks again for your concern for other people..it really helped me from committing a financial suicide..

I got all the way through until he told me about signing me up for the extra website. I stopped him and told him it was ridiculous, and he got angry and said "well good bye then" I told him to wait a minute and I wanted to make sure he canceled he said he did and that our conversation was being recorded and if I said to cancel he had to cancel, still not being polite. I immediately called my Credit Card Company they said it was still showing an approval for the 1.95 but it hadn't been posted yet, then she set me up with a new card number, so that they can't make any more charges.
Those of you who are trying to get them to stop charging might want to try calling you creditcard companies or bank and see what they can do to help.

I seen an ad in the newspaper and called the number, the lady told me that I could make about $50.00 per assignment for $1.95 for registration fee for training. I gave her her my info and she told me about ohter trial basis stuff and I told her that wasn't interested in nothing else but she said it came with this. She said that I had to try the web store because that is where I would get a lot of my money from. but to make a long story short, when I tried to go to the website one of the links that I saw was WAHM so I read some of the reviews and immediately called to cancel in which she gave me a cancellation number but the other places told me that I wasn't in the system and to call back in 48 hours. I called my bank for the scam officer and told her everything and she said that she would cancel my debit card immediately so no charges would come out of my account. Thank you for a lesson well learned. This really did scare me.

first of all this is not a scam!! yes there are definately free sites out there and yes i would participate in those. however, i do feel as though i should let people in on a little secret. the only pathetic people who feel as though they have been scammed and the very smart people who do not pay attention to what they are getting into. It is made very clear in the phone call that the initial fee is 1.95 and a monthly fee of 9.95/14.95/19.95 will be charged after 30/14 days, depending on when your sign-up date was, if they do not call to cnc prior to that window of time closing. ShopperServices even records it just in case there are any clerical errors. Only if the Cx give a yes or an ok to the info stated do they even get signed up. So it is definately the consumers fault if they: A. do not pay attention to what they said yes to and B. if they dont call after 2months+ to cnc and are charged for the monthly fee!!! I called about the mystery shoppers ad in the penny saver. The person I talked to had me going for a while there, but then she asked for a credit or debit card number, I asked if could mail a money order to them she said no. I told her I didn't feel comfortable giving her that information. She assured me that everything was legitimate I still wasn't comfortable. My phone ended up shutting off due to alow battery. I decided to check their site out and I came across this site. Thank God.

So I was lookin thru the paper thought this would be great. I didnt wanna work I wanna be home with my kids. Well, I did it and gave them my info and a few minutes later saw this after looking for the website. They told me I have to call back in 24-48 hours to cancel this bc my account hasnt gone thru. This is such a crock I am having them run it in the paper and callin our paper to tell them.

I was on the phone with a representative I told her I was not going to give my debit card info just by phone, I asked to to wait so that I could check the info on the computer she said she could not wait I still had her talking until I logged in. She told me to hold on then the line got cut off. Thank God I did not give the info by phone and I did not register.

A friend of mine is nice enough to pay for it through his debitbank card. when i called to cancel, the custmer service rep gave me a extra month free but reading comments about the service being a scam...I will cancel first thing monday morning!

Don't get mad - get even. And do it legally. The Federal Trade Commission monitors this stuff on a national basis. Go to ftc.gov and file a formal complaint - right now. It'll take less time than your phone call to ShopperServices.com. Then print it out so you'll have a documented copy of the action you took - in case you need it later (fraudulent use of your credit card, identity theft, etc.).

Call your local BBB, and the Atty.General's ofc., and your local newspaper if they have a "consumer watch" section.

You didn't do anything wrong, and don't stop trusting people - just be very careful about who you trust. The world needs more people like you - honest earners, and less people like them - the scammers who have to resort to these tactics to make a dishonest buck.

Good luck to you all - and remember to pay it forward!

This information will help you: The customer representative with shopperservices with was very smooth, yet pushy and pressuring. She told me that they were registered with the better business bureau (which could mean anything). Later she had me listed as agreeing to other services when earlier I stated very strongly that I didn't want anything else. This was the red flag. I refused to do the recorded agreement on audio tape at the end of our conversation (which prevents authorization), then immediately called my credit card folks to cancel my credit card (which prevents any other billing possibility) and will have a new one sent to me within 3 to 10 days.

I was sure there is something fishy, because after asking me about the address and phone number, which they already had known, the woman came up right to credit card information.I asked twice if they had a web-site so that I can go through and then I'd make a decision. She told me I wouldn't be able to log in,if I didn't pay the register fee of $1.95.And she talked so sofly and fast,so I couldn't get everything.Always be alert for your personel information, especially when money are involved. I am glad they didn't catch me,but this is because of my bad experience in the past and my friend's mistakes like that.Somebody has to do something about it.

I contacted shopper services after seeing an advertizement in the 'want adds'. I had heard of 'secrete shopper's' and I was told how easy it was to complete the required training and start making money. I wasn't mailed anything but told to go to the website, complete some online training, then to print the training reports and 'shop' a fast food restraunt and a retail store. Then, return online and record the information. After my reports were reviewed, I would be notified via my e-mail address and provided names of places I could sign up to be a secrete shopper and make $$. I did my part. I did save all my notes taken during the initial call I had made to shoppers services, (3-25-08) Now I'm pissed off and think I'll follow up on why they didn't follow through on their end.

I have been a stay at home mom for years with four children. Bringing home extra income is imperative these days. This company takes advantage of people who are not in the workforce and do not have a vast knowledge of business internet scams. The tests that they give you and the "training" they provide set you up to never succeed in passing. I plan on reporting them to the BBB.It's all just a scam to get your money.

I followed all the instructions my customer service rep "Lisa Martin" gave me. When I decided to logged on to the website and start my training, the website was not going through. I thought I had written down the website incorrectly until, I found this website. I feel so betrayed! I JUST HOPE THE NEXT PERSON WILL LOOK INTO THE RATINGS BEFORE SIGNING UP. The rep went over all of the charges with me and I had to give an audible answer saying AI authorized the charges.
