The concept behind the lease 2 purchase, or rent to own method, is that you combine a lease contract with an option to buy contract.  What happens is that throughout the period of the lease and prior to the expiration of the option, the renter has a right to purchase the home under previously agreed upon terms.

Conversely, there are many benefits for the lease 2 purchase buyer.  These include: having your rent work towards equity, option deposit credited towards purchase if you exercise your option, savings on down payment and closing costs, ability to sell your option, and more.
