Intelius.com Reviews

About Intelius.com

Started in 2003, Intelius.com claims to be the market-leader in online people searches, promising thorough searches which they say make it one of the most comprehensive databases for background searches.

They say their detailed search includes information like criminal convictions, bankruptcies, property information, tax liens, licenses and address history.  Individuals will sometimes use their database to locate distant relatives and old friends, while parents may use it to check owners of their children’s day care and babysitters’ backgrounds. Companies can use it as a security measure as a part of the hiring process.

The Intelius membership costs $19.99 per month and can only be paid for with a credit card. The membership fee will be automatically charged to your card each month. If you decide to cancel your membership you can do so online, through your account profile, or by phone.

There are no refunds for any paid memberships; however, you have still have access to the search database until the end of your membership period. Unfortunately information cannot be guaranteed as accurate due to a lag in some informational databanks.

Anyone is permitted to opt out of their database, though if your name resurfaces within a new public document after you opt-out, you will appear in their system again. Even if you request to have your information removed from this particular search service, your information will always remain available through public records.

Intelius provides information available from these public records; their charges are for compiling different sources of information into individual profiles.

At one point, Intelius had a negative record with the BBB due to a survey the company was offering to customers who bought products through their site. Taking the survey resulted in signing up for a membership; however this information was printed in very small text.

Since then, Intelius has worked with BBB to improve the language on their website to clearly and conspicuously disclose all terms to consumers.

I hate these popup companies that try to scam you. First you find a company that brags about being FREE and you put in your information and they give you a few crumbs and then tell you that you must pay if you want more and they hand you over to Intelius so they get their cut. I am glad for all these people putting these reviews on here. I hope all these unhappy people can get refunds.
We need to start petitions to get these companies to clean up their acts!
