SCAM!!!!!!
July 18, 2019

They are nothing but a bunch of incompetent, lying thieves!!!

Besides charging you for inaccurate information, they ruin people's reputation by posting false information .

THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY!!

Unauthorized charges to credit card
April 28, 2019
I went online and paid $4.99 to access info on one person. I did not sign up for anything else and now I have a pending charge for $49.99. I have tried to call several times and left my number for a call back. No one will ever get back to me to explain this charge. Steer clear unless you want unauthorized charges placed on your card!!!

SCAM PER EXCELLENCE
February 8, 2019

I have previously received poor products and services from various businesses before but never in my entire life have i ever written a review. I however simply could not let this theft pass by. My experience was HORRIBLE.

First they indicate on their website that running a background check costs $1. There is however a secret charge of $7. Of course, you will only get to find out about it when you look at your bank statement!

That's not all. Without your knowledge and consent, they automatically enroll you to a monthly program where they charge $44.50 just a few days after they run away with your initial$7. You call their customer care and what do they tell you? that it was a valid charge because you were supposed to call them so that they can unsubscribe you from the program that you did not subscribe to in the first place let alone being aware of it!

All said and done, please do not waste your money. I'm glad my bank resolved the issue. I cannot even trust that they have unsubscribed me from the programme. I have since replaced my credit card just in case they are tempted to make any further debits to my account

I did this and paid for one report which was supposed to be a dollar but got charged $30 on my credit card immediately. What did you do to fix it and prevent them from taking more money? What do I do? It is Saturday and the bank isn’t open till Monday to cancel the card.

Tried to run a couple reports and both came back with nothing more than the age of each of them. Like nothing whatsoever. Well I should say that they had some associated people but I'd never heard of any of them. Don't waste your time or your dollar trial period.

This is a fraud/scam

A 0 rating!,I went on this site today because I was bored and had nothing better to do, i put in my information since I know me best,

WOW, it says I have a prison record, says I have been arrested several times and a whole history that is so bogus.

All my info Name Initial places lived relatives are correct but the rest is not funny, what if a job-line

or someone of importance check this out!

They need to be stopped somehow.

Then the idiot I spoke to was so nasty!

They are liars. they say their services are free, if they are free why do I need to pay a $1.00. That is not free. I don't own a credit card so I wasted time get this background check because I didn't have a card to pay the 1.00. They should state this upfront

GJean Miller September 07, 2020

They charge you 29.00 and extra 7.00 dollars , they are liars and take it out every month . They are a scam and don't give money back , they are a scam . Its no dollar they lie.

highly deceptive service
January 4, 2019

I signed up for a one-off check for circa $7 and was shocked to find out I have monthly recurring transactions on my card for circa 34$ (both in £, hence approximations). I was not aware this was subscription as I was checking the small print carefully before payment, so I am not ripped off. Well, I still was....

deceptive pricing, must call to make any changes to account
November 2, 2018

It offered me a range of subscriptions, I selected the least expensive one and then received a receipt for $60. I called the number to let them know this was incorrect and they said there was nothing they could do. They could not change it to another option, refund the difference, nothing. This is flat out deceptive. Their customer service was not at all helpful and simply said "there is nothing I can do to change that." I have never heard that phrase from customer service anywhere.

So when they ask you to put in search info on the first screen and it brings up all the “info” on that person DON’T BE A FOOL and signup not even for their temporary trial period for $1. The report you get on that person will not contain ANY of the info from the search that entices you to want to see it. AND then there are hidden charges for PDFs that it leads you to believe are free. BEWARE this gave me zero info but the first search had a lot of info on it SCAM ALERT

intentionally deceptive business practice AVOID
March 17, 2018

I will let my correspondence speak for itself

sarah,

I am wondering why I never received this simple explanation note when I signed up for $1 on Nov 8th, 2017.i have searched my email and can find no confirmation email explaining these terms or I certainly would have canceled my subscription within the 5 days as nearly $45.00 is highway robbery. I am clearly stating that I find your company's business practices intentionally deceptive. on the check people website, there should be a large clear statement of terms that anyone can see at first glance.

something like

''search people for $1.00 after 5 days get billed for $44.85.....''

that's what an honest upfront company would do

instead, I first had to figure out who the ''chkpubdata' charges on my bank statement were actually from

then I had to scour your website to find actual terms. the closest thing to subscription term clarity was this sentence read in your terms and conditions, ''In other words, subscription plans renew automatically unless canceled in advance of the next payment period by you. Please pay attention to the payment terms and disclosures provided during the order process for your subscription plan''.

no actual details in terms of how many days I had for $1

to add insult to injury, I find it a telling and deceptive business practice to further obscure your billing practices by not listing your charges on bank statements under the name we sign up for, checkpeople.com. I found no charges by that company. only after serious investigation did I finally conclude charges from a ''chckpubdata'' was actually billings from checkpeople.com

Please provide for me a copy of any order confirmation email sent me upon sign up on Nov 8th, 2017 which has these terms spelled out or I shall proceed with my bank to recover these charges, ($44.85 on Nov 13 2017 and $44.85 on 12/13/17. for a total of $89.70 ) which occurred through your intentionally deceptive, obscure and misleading promotional materials.

ADDENDUM to my original review, bad service AND bad product

ADDENDUM TO MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT about check people.com

ACCORDING TO REVIEWOPEDIA “About CheckPeople.com. CheckPeople.com is a new people finder website which says that you can search for anyone using their “Best in Class Tool for People Search” as well as acquire background checks and look up phone numbers.”

I AM FILING A COMPLAINT THAT NOT ONLY DOES CHECKPEOPLE.COM use the legal loophole of hiding subscription terms and charges in hard to find, fine print in small gray font—- to bait and switch customers, it also sells them a substandard and defective product. I searched for my boyfriend under his name, nicknames date of birth, email, birth city and phone number and they asserted there was no one by that name. I tried common misspellings of his name and NOTHING.

You can not charge me for a defective product and stay in business. I demand you refund me the full amount for 2 months I was charged for. I was charged for two months as I did not expect to be charged past the $1 trial so did not check my bank statement.

This complaint is going to my bank, the Attorney General, Consumer affairs the Better Business Bureau as well as online review sites like scamalert.com and yelp if I am nor refunded my money within 7 days of this email date, March 16th. Respond by March 23rd with a full refund to my bank account in the amount of ($44.85 on Nov 13, 2017, and $44.85 on 12/13/17. for a total of $89.70 )

Sincerely Georgianne Fastaia

100% Scam
March 15, 2018

This company couldn't even provide the arrests and divorce record of the person I searched. What a waste of time.

Declaring a recurring charge inside 'billing terms' makes this company a scam. Billing terms are billing terms. Automatic "memberships" are not billing terms, memberships are services. If you charge for a service, it's not a billing term, it's a service.

This company rightly has an F rating on BBB and 100% negative reviews. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Now that is remarkable.

Fair and Honest Review
November 29, 2017
They do tell you that after the 5 day trial period that you will be billed the $44.95 unless you call the phone number(listed right after that) to cancel. It was listed in the information that popped up after you entered your credit card information. It said "review TERMS here".... you click on the TERMS and it tells you when and how they bill you. I would just like to give them a fair review and many people don't read everything and then give a product or company an unfair review because of "User Error". I just signed up today and I will say the one thing I didn't like so far is that it said a $1.00 trial but they have billed my card $1.95. I am in the process of figuring this out so if they do take the $.95 off my card I will update my review. I have been able to look up as many people I want thus far and I have not incurred any additional charges-yet. I have not used the reverse number look up or the criminal back round features yet but so far so good. I will most likely be canceling my subscription before my 5 days are up because it was for only one person so I will let you know how that goes. If they do not bill my card any additional charges then I will give them 4 stars,(minus 1 for overcharging my trial).

CharlesLautner March 15, 2018

LOL shill.

This company couldn't even provide the arrests and divorce record of the person I searched. Kinda important - these things show up on a regular Google search.

Declaring a recurring charge inside 'billing terms' makes this company a complete scam. Billing terms are billing terms. Automatic "memberships" are not billing terms.

The "membership" is not selectable anywhere else on the site. Nobody sees the 'billing terms' at checkout so nobody knows they're going to be charged. Every modern browser blocks popups. If that's their proof of having viewed these 'terms', that won't stand up to any credit card company investigation.

How can you give 3 stars to a service that nearly triple-charges you?

Charged under my nose - DO NOT USE!
November 16, 2017

I had recently wanted to check on a public record of someone I have been dating for almost a year. I do a quick Google search, wasn't really paying attention too much and checked out this site. I saw it was a $1.00 charge and went ahead with the process, even letting my credit union allowing the charge to go through (since it alerted me saying it was Fraud)

About 5 days later, I get an alert from my account showing a low balance. I discovered they charged me with a $44.95 charge! That was NEVER mentioned on the site! I called their customer service number, the person I spoke with claimed it was on the site, but I never saw anything there, even through all of the fine print. I was pretty firm on getting my refund, which they have put through and gave me confirmation numbers for it.

I'm going to be looking at getting my debit card cancelled so I do not keep getting charged in case that is what they intend to do on my account. Don't be like me and not search more before committing to a background check. This site is awful!!

scam
October 18, 2017

Their billing number sends you to an entirely different company. That company said they have been receiving an influx of calls with the same complaints and they were more than happy to give me the number for checkpeople.com.

I had signed up for the free trial and called to cancel the same day. Yet I woke up this morning to a $44.85 charge. After talking to a "supervisor", the woman said I was supposed to call back within 5 days of my cancellation, which is garbage. She eventually said she was going to refund me in full. I called my bank to file a claim and they said the company never submitted anything for a refund, but luckily my bank was able to stop any further charges.

Also their billing address is in Great Britain, so I assume this is really all just a giant scam. Do not use this company.

If you're in the same boat as me, make sure to call your bank and also submit a claim to the BBB.

Scam, Don't Do it
October 2, 2017
This company is a scam. They are based out of the US, so may be able to get away with this. My wife needed to do a background check. The initial was supposed to be $1, but they charged us that, plus $1.95. And then 7 days later, we were automatically enrolled in their monthly subscription service for $44.85. We called the same day to cancel this, and they said a refund would be issued in 24 to 48 hours. 10 days later, and still no credit on our CC. This is a total scam, and had to dispute the charge with the CC company. CC company said that this is a recurring charge, and will continue to show up every month unless cancelled. Total scam. Do not do business with this company.

ChrisWoodley Snyder October 04, 2017

Yes, the same thing happened to me. There was no mention about a $1.95 fee or a monthly fee. Scam for sure.

Inaccurate information
August 19, 2017
I tried checkpeople because I wanted to do a background search on my brother. I know he has been to jail numerous times, went to prison for a little while, has numerous felonies... I just wanted to see actually how many it was... Checkpeople showed that he had no criminal record at all!!! I am 100000% certain that is wrong. I seriously can't even begin to count how many times he's been arrested in his short 27 years of life. So for it to not even show one arrest is a joke. I instantly cancelled my subscription that I wasn't intending to subscribe to. It was a waste of my $1. If you are trying to find the arrest records on someone, this is not the site to do that! I instantly thought of if someone was wanting to date him (or someone like him) and took this site to be truth, then they would be in for one hell of a ride. Don't take the background information on this site to be truth! Especially if it has to do with your safety or your children's safety. You could easily be misled into thinking a hardened criminal is actually an upstanding citizen!

Scam! Not located in the U.S,!
June 15, 2017

Ordered a background check on myself; it was sent to me with incomplete addresses and wrong information. My marriage date, from public record, was years off. My name is not that common! Contacted the company twice, asking for a better report or refund. Finally got a terse reply including: "CheckPeople does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any third-party information on the website. Our service combs through public records - we simply provide the public information to you."

The next morning (today) our bank statement updated with three additional charges to the $4.95 report fee I originally paid. I called the bank, who informed me that two of the other charges were for INTERNATIONAL origination fees--checkpeople.com is an offshore company. We don't know what the third one is for. Too late, I did an internet search and found hundreds of complaints for unauthorized credit card charges. We had to cancel our credit card and now have to wait 7-10 days for a new one.

This company does not search public records, it does not stand behind its product, it is not located in the United States and has no customer service. It has been reported hundreds of times for fraud. DO NOT USE CHECKPEOPLE.COM!

SCAM. This is how to Unscubscribe. The ONLY way.

Problem:

Guy on cell phone is cust service dude.

First Lady on phone asks, how many days has it been that I ordered the service. I said 4 days. (They like you to keep calling back until the first billing period.

Lady on phone says, "Im sorry, your email is not in our system.

When asking why my email was not in (the system) so they could cancel it, I was given the response, All I can do is check the last four digits of your card number, your name on your credit card, and your email address. None of these three are coming up, the only way to validate your account is by you giving me your card number without the year and expiration date."

Hmmm... I don't feel comfortable doing that over the phone, I said.

Lady on phone responds saying, "I respect your decision". I said well how do I cancel, she said well.. "I gave you three choices, none of them are coming up in our system".

I bluffed her saying; "Well, I received an email confirmation saying that you have received my account information when I logged in. So, I know for a fact you have my account on record".

She thought about that for a second. She said "Well, I don't know what else to tell you, I have now verified your name and the last four digits on your credit card 3x now. If you want, you can just give me your card number so I can check your account".

I said, "Well, I would like to speak to a Mgr. She said, "There are no managers here, but you are welcome to call back later, we answer the phones 24/7".

So that phone convo was not okay with me. I came on here and read all of these SCAM reviews.

My next step: I cancelled my credit card. TAKE THAT YOU SPAM SCAMMERS!
